“Staying at Tanna Lava View Bungalow was the best part of our trip to Vanuatu. Getting there is an adventure in itself. After multiple stops in town to get supplies and pick up other passengers we were on our way across the island to the Bungalow and volcano. The steep road over the mountains is sealed but once across the island the road becomes a rutted dirt track for the remainder of the journey. To get to the bungalow you have to drive along creeks, cross ash plains and travel on some very interesting tracks - especially after rain. The bungalow is located up the hill above the village of Isaka and the view is AMAZING!. You can hear the eruptions from Mt Yasur and at night you can see the red glow above the volcano. It was incredible to wake up to a loud boom and see Yasur glowing and to watch the sunrise over it. The bungalow is a thatch hut with straw mats on the floor and basic but comfortable bedding. There is only limited solar power for lighting at night and cold water in the shower. The location gives you some privacy from the village yet is close enough to wander around at your leisure. We felt safe and comfortable during our stay and only shut the door to keep the roaming pigs out. Daniel and Chela were incredible hosts. Communication from Daniel ahead of our stay was quick and friendly and he was so flexible in meeting our changing requests for activities. During our stay Chela was so warm and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast were local fare and very tasty. We really enjoyed talking with her about her village and life on Tanna. As others have said in previous reviews - this place is not a resort. It is "rustic" and there is still damage from last year's cyclones. If you have a sense of adventure and enjoy camping, authentic village experiences or appreciate a slower and quieter existence then give this place a go.”
“The location was awesome as you listen to the volcano and see its glow. We could walk to villages nearby swim in a hot spring. Your could just relax and listen to the noise of the jungle around you.”
“We expected a jungle experience and that is what we got and we loved it. Daniel and Chella were the loveliest, kindest people, as were the amazing drivers.”
“So close to the volcano. Lovely hosts and delicious food. Kelson meet us at the airport and dropped us back at the airport. If you want to have a traditional island experience this is the place to stay. Bungalows are basic but comfortable. Shared bathroom, cold water only. Solar lights and charging station for electrical devices. Meals prepared by the family are large and delicious. If you are thinking of visiting the volcano, please support the local businesses.”
“The family that runs the accommodation is lovely, very helpful, they cook nice homemade and very fresh meals. The views from the room are amazing you can see and hear the volcano all the time. The cabin is very cute, but very basic. Daniel and his wife are lovely. All their family is”
“We didn’t even see the property. Despite having a confirmed booking and written confirmation & contact up to the day before, we found upon what we thought was arrival they were overbooked”
“The view of the volcano is exquisite. Couldn't be better view. Right at the edge of cliff, viewing the mountain. It's is surreal, and feels like being in a dinosaur period, with Volcanos and deep jungle all around. The village is 100m down the road, and you can immerse yourself in true Vanuatu jungle village life. Hens and small piglets roaming around in search of roots and other food. People doing their daily work. And everyone very welcoming. The beds were good, and we all had a mosquito net around, although there weren't any mosquitoes. We had running water in the sink and shower, and it was visible that the conditions we had were better than in the village. The owners really made an effort to give us anything we asked, whether it's vegan food, lighting, and transportation.”
“A really authentic experience and an opportunity to see into the world of life on a remote island. The view from f the volcano is exceptional, the tour guiding is excellent and you are made to feel right at home within Morris family. The food is delicious!”
“Kelson and his family were just amazing. The location, food and host were just amazing. So helpful, kind and welcoming”
“Perfect location for volcano viewing in simplicity with the local community and the natural surrounds”
