“Alofa, as its name suggests, is located on the beach and is near local villages. The accommodation is basic, but has its own special charm. Our local hosts, Glen and his sister, were very kind and helpful. While the menu options were limited, Glen's fried chicken and chips were quite decent. We really enjoyed swimming at the local beach where the locals swim. More luxurious resorts offer more comfort, but we felt we experienced the real Tanna staying at Alofa.”

Garden bungalow was quiet with simply furnished room. Small bathroom/ shower. Fan provided cooling option as limited breeze. One chair on the deck.
Staff were very friendly.
Pool was pleasant.
Dinner and lunch were simple and fresh meals with the dining room having a small deck overlooking the ocean. Simple breakfast fresh fruit/ bread /pancakes plus baked beans.”

“The host family were welcoming and happy to share their life and culture. Amazing views of the volcano while having breakfast. A trip to the volcano and the rumblings of the volcano at night were highlight.
As an added bonus Morris and his family organised a spontaneous trip to the traditional Kustom Village (10 minute walk) for dancing and a cultural experience with the bay and volcano as a backdrop.”

“Extreme hospital family. Mike and his family offers a once in a lifetime service and experience. The local meals were delicious. There are heaps of activities or tours they offer or you can also go on a walk for yourself to the ashplanes. There is also a cold river to swim in at a 7min. walk. Fantastic views from the treehouse or bungalows to the volcano.
The treehouse is basic, but with a seperate flush toilet, a wonderful balcony with fantastic view to the volcano and three beds inside, a queen size double and a single. Both were installed with a mosquito net. Light is provided the whole day by solar energy. The shower is located within the tree under the treehouse, in the "first floor", an outdoor experience.”
