The hotel and especially its restaurant (which is the only option for food for miles around) are overpriced, but you do get a unique stay, and the portions were fairly large for a high-end restaurant.

ION Adventure is a uniquely designed hotel in a beautiful, remote location. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the staff were all very friendly, going above and beyond to offer a pleasant stay.

The staff were really helpful. I travelled to the hotel with my elderly mother as she has always wanted to see the Northern Lights and on the second night we were not disappointed. The food was great and the staff really looked after my Mum when I went off to do the snorkelling experience.

The hotel is far away from any attraction so it requires a bit driving. The breakfast is so-so for its price. Seems the sauna and outdoor spa is not yet available (Nov,2022)

The dinner from the resturant is superb, the menu is kind of fusion cusine with Iceland/Nordic ingredient, very creative and impress me a lot. The pool is awsome too as you can enjoy the spa in a semi-open area which you can see the aurora and stars or galaxy together! The room is okay.

Super cool and trendy hotel. Rooms are small. The pool is really nice, but it’s rather a plunge pool (knee deep). The northern light bar is magic! You pay for the fame, but it’s worth it!

    Nothing really!

The staff were all very friendly, greeting us on arrival with a glass of Prosecco and lots of smiles! We arrived before our room was ready because of a very early flight, but we were offered the use of the spa changing rooms to switch into our walking gear. We were given lots of suggestions for hiking routes in the surrounding hills and valleys, which was a great way to start our holiday. There are some truly amazing hiking trails literally outside the front door - on one day we spent 9 hours hiking past the nearby geothermal power station (which is very cool!) and through the geological park without seeing another person, it's really quite special, like having your own private bubbling mud pools etc. The hike over to the hot river (which you can bath in) is amazing, but make sure you take food and drinks with you (and a beer, to enjoy in the river!) Our room was clean and modern (as is the whole hotel) and the food in the restaurant is extremely good, beautifully presented and full of interesting flavours. If there are aurora during dinner the kitchen will pause your food order for you if you want to go outside and have a look. We were not expecting to see much as it was September, but we got lucky on a couple of nights and saw the lights fluttering away. There is a large wooden deck to the rear of the restaurant which offers a good vantage point. The outdoor geothermal pool at the end of the building is an amazing place to unwind after a long day of hiking, make sure you use it often! Likewise, ensure you have a drink in the Northern Lights bar, located at the far end of the hotel which has views out over the valley. We spent an evening in there during a storm and it was spectacular, watching the wind and rain swirling around. Highly recommended, we will definitely stay again.

The only thing that took a bit of getting use to (but we did know about it before booking!) was the Sulfur smell. If you are not a fan of eggs you might want to rethink staying here - for us, it didn't detract from our stay but definitely something to keep in mind when booking. Another mention is the toilet paper - it wasn't very soft? Again - didn't detract from our stay and something we noticed across the entire country - but worth mentioning for those with sensitive skin (you might want to bring you own if you are a toilet paper snob!)

ION was amazing! We loved every part of it from start to finish. The cherry on top was the spa facilities and middle of nowhere scenery. The room was larger than any other room we had during our stay in Iceland (we stay in 4 hotels total). We only had dinner at the on premises restaurant but it was fantastic! It was also the only time we saw the Northern Lights - pure luck!

Sign-posting inadequate for arrival after dark - we ended up in a farm yard initially - from the turn off from the public road all the way to reception, we felt we were guessing whether we were going the right way. When we arrived, late in the evening, there was no offer to help with our luggage. Room furnishing was stylish, but impractical (i.e. shelf/table space was tiny; glass panel between bedroom and bathroom means that anyone using the bathroom at night wakes up their partner when they switch the bedroom light on, big armchair uncomfortable and difficult to get out of) Breakfast buffet was pretty minimal for the price of the hotel. Provision for vegetarians... At breakfast buffet, meat and cheese were on the same serving dish - this is unacceptable to nearly every vegetarian! At dinner, menu not vegetarian-friendly (not a single vegetarian starter- its 2022!!!)

Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, Bar area is extremely smart. Outdoor thermal pool very special. Food at dinner was fabulous!

the smell I think from the nearby factory, the lack of fitness space/equipment, the bedding - it was like 2 single bed duvets placed horizontally across the bed instead of a fitted double duvet so anytime you moved there was a gap and it became cold

the staff, the food, the sauna, the baths, the peaceful location which was good for driving to other tourist spots, views of the northern lights

Wish the room had a small fridge in it. Bathroom was too small with not enough counter space.

Good apart from the noisy room on the first night
    • Business trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Small Single Room
    • Stayed 2 nights

The first room I stayed in was 302 - under the restaurant. I wanted an early night but couldn't get one because of chairs scraping on the wooden floor above while the restaurant was open, and the tables being dragged across the floor afterwards to set up for breakfast. The floors are solid wood as are the table legs. Felt/material on the legs would stop noise from chairs being dragged across the floor, and casters on the tables would reduce the noise from dragging furniture across the floor for breakfast. When I called at night to ask to change rooms there was nobody on reception. When I spoke to the receptionist the following morning, she was aware of this problem and other people have previously complained about this! I was changed to another room the following night and this was fine.

    Great location. Good food.

I paid a significant amount more money for a larger suite. It turned out to be located on the lower ground level with a poor view. My friends room was comparative for a much lesser room rate. Not worth the additional monies. My suite was not worth the extra money I don’t suggest upgrading.

Good stop along the Golden Circle tho in the middle of nowhere. Great supper and nice buffet breakfast.
