More real possibilities to hang the robe or towel outside, at the pool/sauna area. We ate snacks for dinner, so no comments on that.

Amazing room and bath. Liked the relaxing area and the small sauna. The pool is not for swimming, just for soaking. Great breakfast!!

The restaurant was very disappointing- more like a motorway cafe. The whole place was quite underwhelming- tiny reception seated area at the entrance, right next to another tiny bar. We chose the remote location in the hope of seeing the aurora, however we arrived in a blizzard and were snowed in for the first day- nothing else to do there- the spa pool was also smaller than expected - 2 or 3 people and it was full. Nobody cleared the snow around the hotel. We complained about the shower smelling and the water not draining- we were told it was typical of Iceland water to smell of Sulphur. Nobody came to check the drain. Room was basic. Very disappointed all round- would not book again

The Northern Lights bar was the nicest part- although only manned after 6 in the evening. There aren’t many seats though, the layout means one person can take up a whole sofa.

Would love to see more food options or a bar menu - some simple comforts like Lamb Soup, Pizza etc would be perfect after a long day. We couldn’t find anything on the restaurant menu that worked for us.

Amazing location and awesome spa area - highlight for us was the sauna and natural hot spring pool - absolutely sensational

Very expensive! Food in the restaurant was average and we had to send back as not hot. They could also do with providing drinks in the spa area. Room starting to look tired, particularly the bathroom.

Stayed for New year. In the middle of nowhere. Felt like we were on the moon. Geothermal pool and sauna were great. And northern lights bar very smart.

The lava pool closes at 10 PM, but some guests were able to use it until late. They were noisy, and I was starting to get upset. I was also a little uneasy with the noise because this hotel is located in a very quiet area.

This hotel was nested upon a hill with a commanding view of the surrounding landscape which I really enjoyed. The food was good especially fish of the day was very delicious. The staff members were extremely polite.

The room is a bit small and not much spaces i.e. bedside draw, etc for stuff. Shower is also a bit wobbly and not much surface for putting stuff on.

The location is fantastic, the scenic and the whole surrounding. The geothermal pool is also wonderful.

The rooms were functionally limited for a property of this caliber, eg limited storage and bathroom space

The location, and in particular the warm plunge pool were excellent.

We drove to the hotel from the airport very late (close to midnight), following Google Maps. 20min before reaching the hotel, the only road from out of the blue had a "no entry" sign, and turning back and taking taking another route would add over 1hr. We called the hotel for an advice - which was not very helpful, so we took the risk and drove pass the sign, which was ok, but a bit stressful not knowing where we were going. The hotel should have communicated better these details prior to the arrival. Vegan options on the menu would be appreciated.

It was just a bit more basic than expected.

It was a nice but basic hotel. The breakfast and dinner were lovely and there was a good wine selection. View from our room was very good but the power plant next door dominated the area.

My room felt dated. For the price paid, I had a certain expectation. Even before entering the room, the damaged/dated door frame was concerning. The towel warmer in the bathroom was non functional. Our room was right behind reception and we heard loud noises of people talking and laughing late into the night. I knew the hotel was full so didn’t bother calling the front desk as I knew there was nothing they could probably do. The location of the hotel was spectacular. The staff were absolutely amazing from check in to room service, to check out.

They could have a bar service at the pool

I recently visited the Ion Adventure Hotel in Iceland, and it truly lives up to its name as an amazing destination. The fact that it's featured on the BBC's "Amazing Hotels" speaks volumes. My experience at the hotel was highlighted by a special and incredibly tasty dinner. The culinary experience here is top-notch. However, I did find that breakfast was a bit on the expensive side, and it might be more convenient for guests if it were included in the room price, especially given that the room rates are already on the higher end. One thing to note is that the hotel is currently undergoing expansion, which has the potential to be fantastic. Still, there's always a concern that such growth might lead to a loss of the hotel's original charm. I hope they can maintain the unique character that makes this place so special while expanding. Overall, the Ion Adventure Hotel is a remarkable destination that offers a memorable experience, especially in terms of its dining. Just keep an eye on the breakfast pricing, and let's hope the expansion doesn't compromise the hotel's unique charm.

Although we did not get to see the Northern Lights (which is why I booked this hotel), we very much enjoyed our stay! The scenery on the drive to the hotel is spectacular (if not a little scary if you're in wind/rain/snow), and the hotel is very, very cool! We enjoyed getting into the warm geothermal pool and sitting in the Northern Lights lounge after dinner. The food is fantastic and the staff was more hospitable than anywhere else we had experienced on our 10-day trip.

We were looking forward to our stay at ION and it far exceeded our expectations. Location is remote and beautiful, the rooms are very comfortable, the restaurant was great and appreciated small touches like the welcome drink. But the highlight was when we got the midnight wake up call to go and see the Northern Lights - we could see them even from our room window! Truly spectacular.

Restaurant menu never changed, limited hanging space in room nowhere for wet clothes. No milk or creamer for coffee or tea. Limited car parking. Duvet wasn't big enough for bed.
