Hotel in Alnwick
We would like to introduce you to The Tempus at Charlton Hall Estate, a decadent place where colours collide, and imaginations are captured. We stayed at a brand new hotel called The Tempus on the Charlton Hall Estate. Charlton Hall is now only run as a wedding venue. The Tempus is a beautiful hotel with state of the art technology for controlling room lights, temperature in the room, etc. The decor is colourful and flamboyant with a fun vibe and tastefully done. The dining room is cheerful and the bar cozy. The food was excellent. There was also plenty of parking, a necessity as it is out in the country. I would highly recommend a stay at The Tempus.

Hotel in Alnwick
Featuring free WiFi and a terrace, The Cookie Jar (Alnwick) was formerly the Convent of Mercy, and is just 0.2 miles from the centre of Alnwick. Words really fail me to explain how special this property was. The attention to every single detail was exquisite. I’m a professional organizer. My business is details. I’ve never seen anything like this. Everything - even the lights on the floor that automatically come on when you walk into the bathroom - was planned perfectly when this former convent was remodeled to make a sacred space for all its guests. There was even framed sheet music in the halls to, I assume, pay homage to the beautiful music that must’ve once graced the hallways. The staff was so warm and welcoming. The breakfast buffet was like something out of a Veranda magazine spread. The breakfast was delicious. At every turn in the hotel and the room itself, we were met with a delightful and unexpected experience. Who puts this much thought into a public space? The Cookie Jar does. You made our once-in-a-lifetime trip unforgettable.

What’s not to like! A great castle, dog friendly pubs that sell reasonable food, marvellous riverside walks and the hidden gem of a fabulous beach. Further afield there is the outstandingly beautiful Northumberland coast and its great little towns and villages.
Pretty and quiet seaside village with tiny lanes, lovely scenery and walks along the local beach footpaths. Excellent restaurants and tea rooms. Parking is not easy but there is easy access by bus from the rail station to the village and to nearby coastal villages and further afield north to Berwick and south to Newcastle and also notably nearby to Alnwick that hosts nationally famous Barter Books and the very expensive Alnwick Castle, (too expensive for ordinary people). Go there as a base for other towns to visit in Northumberland.
Alnwick Castle and Gardens were well worth the visit. Alniwick is also ideal as a base to visit other Northumberland towns and fishing villages. The Northumberland coast is beautiful.
We did the pilgrims walk to Lindesfarne with our your guide,Patrick of Footsteps in Northumberland,in the morning which was amazing We then walked the coastal path from Budle Bay into Bamburgh in the evening and headed for The Castle Inn for a meal and a well deserved bottle of Sauvignon Blanc!! We got a taxi back. I am a regular visitor to the Bamburgh area. Love it.
Bonus to be in Beadnell on Northumberland day. Activities on in the town and on the beach. Got a row on 'Grace Darling' - beautiful skiff. Pipe band brilliant. Craster Inn - very friendly staff, good food, good entertainment, great beer garden.
The perfect place to stay when planning a trip to the Farne islands. They even put dolphins on for us this visit! Lovely shell collecting beach near the harbour, lots of seabirds to spot, and a nice little town centre. Also a great base for exploring beautiful bamburgh, magical holy island and the rest of the fabulous Northumberland coast.
For us Newbiggin-by-the-Sea met our requirements of having a good base from which to explore the Northumberland region and its attractive coastline, castles, town's and villages. The Maritime Centre and cafe is worth a visit and we enjoyed the local Italian restaurant. It's easy to get around and although very quiet that suited us after a day out travelling across the region.
Bellingham is a beautiful, central location for the Kielder and Otterburn areas of the Northumberland National Park. A beautiful village feel with plenary to do and great amenities!
Berwick on Tweed is a lovely town well situated for trips to the Northumberland coast. The Tourist Information Centre are helpful especially for people without a car. There is a Day Discovery ticket for £6.60 which was great to go along the coast. Bamburgh Castle was amazing. In Craster the walk out towards Dunstanburgh Castle is great too There are nice pubs in Berwick offering good meals especially the Brewer's Arms. The ramparts are a great walk any time of day.
If you have good weather you can't beat Northumberland and even if you can't it's still fantastic. My own favourite is the stretch of coast from Craster to Beadnell. Fantastic food in Craster and Low Newton and amazing beaches.
We loved it all! The rooms were lovely, well-equipped, and very comfortable. The staff were ALL so friendly and helpful! The manager, Andy, was there to answer all our questions and gave us great places to visit! The food was lovely and catered for all preferences! The rooms with a sea view were amazing! Full view of the sea and right outside the windows we could watch the huge ships going into the docks...... awesome! The hotel is situated well for visiting all of Northumberland ,,,, a real bonus!
The room was comfortable with many of the home comforts we wanted. Enjoyed a good night's sleep there. Hotel is just the right distance from town for us with a good walk to the shops/Castle, etc. It was an excellent location for visiting the lovely Northumberland area and its attractions. We enjoyed the evening meals, and the breakfasts were really good. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. We'd definitely choose this hotel if we visited the area again.
Bellingham
The hot breakfast was the best I have had at an Inn/Hotel, perfect before a long hike to Hareshaw Linn and beyond in the snow. The staff were very friendly, accomodating, easy going and not too fussing. The room and facilities are modern, very clean and tidy and comfortable. I am really looking forward to returning and staying here more often in the future when working in Northumberland and visiting friends at the First & Last Brewery.
