Hotel in Chagford
Nestled in a wooded valley, Gidleigh Park boasts 107 acres of mature grounds, within the wilds of Dartmoor. With an award winning restaurant, this estate is just 6 minutes’ drive from Chagford. Everything! We were so sad to leave. We love travel so have stayed in some amazing hotels across the world (including other Relais & Chateaux properties), but after our stay at Gidleigh Park, we realized this might have been the BEST hotel ever - even including some very special Japanese ryokans. What made it so wonderful: - The staff were all so genuinely nice. We had a lot of odd requests (since I’m pregnant and my husband has very specific dietary preferences), and I’m sure they secretly thought we were total weirdos, but they did a great job covering this up - no request was too strange! Examples: 1.) my husband became addicted to Innocent smoothies during our stay in England and insisted on having some every day (…even in a Michelin-starred hotel), so they kept them in the fridge for us and brought out the bottles whenever he wanted to pour a glass; 2.) I went down each morning to have breakfast but my husband prefers to sleep in, so I would request a takeaway homemade croissant for him. This request alone wasn’t too bad perhaps, but the croissants were so good warmed up, so we would later request to have them warmed right before he ate them - which they kindly did… - The food is SUPERB - I could’ve eaten for weeks straight just at the casual lounge (we’d normally try the formal restaurant too, but saving this for next time when I have fewer pregnancy food restrictions, to fully enjoy!). Best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had, with perfectly poached golden-orange yolks (I’ve only ever seen such perfect eggs before in Japan), sumptuous afternoon tea, truffled cheese soufflé, really good strong pots of Earl Grey and Mini Pu Erh Cake (!) tea, amazing fresh fish and brothy beans… all in a cozy casual living room/conservatory setting where they let you open the patio doors, or sit outdoors (very nice if you’re being extra Covid-cautious while pregnant like me)!
Hotel in Tavistock
Situated in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, Rockmount Rooms & Apartment is only 150 yards from a selection of bars and restaurants. When we arrived the very happy friendly owner gave us an upgrade to a bigger room as he had a cancellation. So we had the garden room. It was really nice and modern and had illy coffee for the machine! The bed was mega comfortable and there was a sofa and TV for chilling. It was only 200m from the centre of town so we could wander down and stumble back later on. You can also pop out to Dartmoor in 10mins drive. Overall felt very happy and relaxed when we left.

Hotel in Okehampton
The Tors features a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Okehampton. The property is around 19 km from Castle Drogo, 19 km from Lydford Castle and 36 km from Launceston Castle. First, Belstone is beautiful and it is nearly to do a travel back in time. Nice old buildings and walls, additionally the cemetery and the church behind The Tors give a spooky factor. The accomodation is one of the best we ever had. We stopped in Belstone for 3 nights when we made a round trip in the south of England, visiting 6 accommodations in total. After leaving The Tors we missed it a lot in the days after... It is not only Dicky who treated us very friendly and we had interesting and good conversations (Marmite and Bears, right, Dicky? :-D). He gave us very good hints and tips for some spots to visit in the surrounding area. Fortunately we arrived at the 3rd Tuesday of the month, when an event takes place in the pub with live music of the locals. We have to say that each meal was better than great. The breakfast, the burgers, Fish & Chips, Cheese plate, the Cider, everything was so delicious,

Postbridge
The whole experience was spot-on. I loved the location, tucked away in the middle of Dartmoor, and the buildings, and the food and drink provision was a refreshing change from my memory of youth hostels from years ago. The breakfast baps and coffee were smashing (I had imagined it was going to be a sad sausage and single rasher in a burger bap. It was considerably better than this!). It was also slightly amazing that they had a four bed shared room available at short notice in the middle of the summer. I love it when a plan comes together.
Fantastic location, close to the Abbey Inn, Buckfastleigh, the train to Totnes, and many options for walking the high moors or staying more local and swimming the Dart or walking Hembury, etc. hotel is very first class, clean, professionally run. I didn’t even realize it was attached to the Abbey until the second day. Restaurant breakfast was good, I didn’t eat dinner there. Staff was cheerful, polite, and helpful. Excellent option for a variety of trips to south Dartmoor!
This is a remarkable hotel because it has the combination of very high standards with a laid back and friendly atmosphere. Evening meal was top London quality. The chief has been with the hotel for 20 years. A hidden gem in the heart of Dartmoor Devon. The spa was was what you would expect to find in a top ranking classy spa hotel. I hesitate to say all this because I’m a way I wish I could keep the Islington Country House Hotel my secret!
Bovey Tracey
we Had a fabulous 3 nights at the Cromwell Arms Hotel! We booked on a Room Only basis, our room was very clean and comfortable - there were plenty of drawers and wardrobe space, plus a hairdryer and iron in the room. The en-suite shower was very clean. Bovey Tracey is the perfect location and base to explore Dartmoor and just 35/40 minutes from Paignton, Brixham, Torquay. The staff were so friendly and the evening meals were good..
Okehampton
A modernised old farmhouse, tastefully modernised and decorated without loosing the character of property. Everything provided as in a top hotel, and more. Hostess Mary gives a warm welcome to her lovely home. Mary makes sure you have everything you need to make your stay comfortable. This is a working farm, ancient barns converted to holiday accommodation. So peaceful in a secluded valley with stunning Dartmoor views.
Princetown
It was a wonderful experience, a 5-star welcome but in an informal and familiar context. Comfortable and spacious room, rich and varied breakfast, warm and relaxing environment. Within walking distance of the Dartrmoor Prison Museum and Visitor Centre (formerly Duchy Hotel) and in the heart of Dartmoor. Finally, Richard and Claire are wonderful hosts. Hope to return soon for new walks on the beautiful moor.
The location and rooms were all great. The facilities were all very nice and accurate per photos from listing. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms were nice and quiet. The breakfast, which was included, was really good and held in the tea room which was really nice. The pub in a different room was also really nice and had some good local Dartmoor beers.
Ivybridge
The Apartment was very comfy and clean. we stayed 3 days as a group of 4. The garden is huge and comfortable, we had a great barbecue there. Also the Host takes care of everything you need. Richard also provided us with detailed insights about a walking trail through nearby dartmoor. There you can enjoy a beautiful view and landscape. We would come back.
Chagford
Greeted on arrival by Cheryl, whom we saw often the next 48 hours and who made a very good place special. All the staff, in fact, were friendly and competent. The room was a little small, but very comfortable, nonetheless. Great to have a parking space behind the hotel. The breakfasts were outstanding. Perfect base for enjoying the moors of Dartmoor.
Located just a short walk from Haytor rocks, the moorland Hotel is an excellent base to explore Dartmoor. The hotel is very comfortable with friendly and efficient staff. The room was well equiped and even had a fan which was useful as the south facing room got warm during an unusual warm spell for October.
The Hotel was excellent, the executive family room was fab, very clean with comfy beds, great shower. The Staff were so good, we were able to go, to our room when we arrived approx 1pm, nothing was too much trouble for them. The Hotel is in a lovely position great for walking and cycling on Dartmoor.
Moretonhampstead
This was the second time we have stayed at Dartmoor Apartments, and on both occasions the hosts Will and Kate went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, and the apartment had been recently refurbished in the bathroom and kitchen areas. Everything was spotlessly clean.
The cooked breakfast was huge, great cereals and nice tea. "Proper milk" available for hot drinks in bedrooms. Hotel close to edge of Dartmoor and Haytor. Bedrooms comfortable and nicely decorated. Plenty of free parking in off road car park. Very reasonably priced.
The location was superb. You can visit Dartmoor National Park by foot, so that was great. The apartment was really nice and clean. There's a binder with all the information that you need, which was very helpful. The communication with the host went fluently.
Perfectly nestled in the middle of Dartmoor Park, this hotel has an attentive staff and spacious rooms. The bathroom, newly remodeled, featued an unusually large and comfortable shower (as well as a separate tub). Breakfast was excellent.

Breakfast was fantastic. The location just across the road from Dartmoor is excellent - you can go for a hike without needing to drive anywhere first. The hotel is cozy and quiet.
Location was good Beautful location in small village on Dartmoor. Hotel was charming - very old with standing stones built into the wall. Food was average.
