Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyMy room was near some water pump installation, so whenever someone used the bathroom, there was a weird sound, but I guess it can't be helped. Staff wasn't very forthcoming during my stay and had to be chased down for any request, but they were nice and helpful enough when I did find them.
Spotless rooms, with aircon and very good internet, nice public areas and the option to use the kitchen. Airport pickup went without a hitch. I found the area around perfectly safe even at night, even as a solo female traveller. The nicer restaurants are about a 15-20 minute walk away, but there's a corner shop and several bakeries close by.

SwitzerlandI wouldn't recommend to take the breakfast there, it's rather small and expensive for Sao Tome.
The rooms were amazing and very clean. It's in the centre and there is a big parking sport. The staff was very friendly and helfpul.

KenyaThe breakfast variety could have been better. Appreciated the tea and fresh fruit but would have loved to get more than 1 egg and a bread bun to go along with it. Also please provide water in the rooms or at reception when people are checking in for the first time. And a minor thing, it would be great to just run a tab of expenses that can be settled at check out if you have to buy water repeatedly. Felt bad for the staff having to look for change with every purchase.
Perfect location to explore Sao Tome. Loved how spacious the rooms were, the wonderful common space that's also maintained very well for use by all guests and the cleanliness. The staff also went above and beyond to help out regardless of the language barrier so thank you for that. It's close to the city center and you can zoom around on a bike or taxi fairly easily or walk to most places. Needed to work a couple of days at the hotel and the WiFi was strong and reliable.

NorwaySome comms problems for only english speaking people (as everywhere else in this country)
Super clean, friendly and helpful staff, central but quiet location, hot water in the shower, very good breakfast, water/softdrinks available for purchase across the street, reasonable price for airport transfer, and last but not least they have a generator for power cuts (much needed in this place). A good place to stay in São Tomé city when travelling alone. Returned for a few more nights at the end of my trip.

United KingdomNo lift to first or second floor. No laundery in guest house, but none a 2 minute walk. A little far to walk to a good beach. Power and internet sometimes unstable. Guest house a little expensive for one person? Couples might find it cheaper.
My second 3-night stay was just as good as my first stay and I was given the same upstairs room with ensuite bathroom. Entire building is made of wood. Fantastic helpful staff. Room cleaned daily. Good speed free WiFi. Bedding and towels included in room price. Shower in bathroom is good with hot water. Comfy double bed. My room was on first floor with terrace/balcony. There is a kitchen and lounge on second floor. Chocolate factory is next to the guesthouse. A 20 minute walk to Saio Tome city centre. Free parking available. Outdoor and indoor seating. Breakfast cost 8 Euros per person. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, juice, coffee, cooked eggs, bread, butter-jam. Highly recommend breakfast. Tours can be arranged. Can arrange to hire a car. Guest house has printing service. Staff speak English and are kind, helpful and friendly. Plug sockets near bed. Close rack in room. Toilet paper in bathroom. Soap provided. Bin in bathroom.

A lovely medium sized guest house near the centre of Sao Tome city, with wonderful English-speaking staff who helped with my every need. They booked tours around the island with English-speaking guide and suggested the cheapest way for me to do each tour. nearly all of the property is built from wood. My double en-suite room was on the terrace/balcony up wooden steps. A lounge and kitchen is on the second floor. A good breakfast consists of cooked fried/scrambled eggs/omelette, bread, fresh fruit, butter-jam, fresh mango juice and coffee. Breakfast costs 8 Euros per person. Room had ensuite bathroom with shower with hot water, sink and toilet with free toilet paper provided. Small and large towels provided. Bedding provided with lots of pillows. Room had one table, one chair, small wooden clothes rack with hangers. Small table each side of bed. Plug sockets near bed. Air condition in room. Free reasonable WiFi available in room and reception. Room was cleaned daily. Paid shuttle available to-from airport, 7 Euros each way.

PortugalBreakfast was very good, but a little overpriced...
The staff was very friendly and the location was good, one can get near the city centre on foot easily (about 15 min). If you're travelling late, the Guest House can keep you're luggage for free, and for 5€ you can take a shower before the flight, rest for a while on the cosy balcony or use the common kitchen.
