Positive section of review
Since i am a light sleeper, I really put a lot of value on the quiet room and surroundings. Vila Marilyn met my expectations. Vila Marilyn is a very nice place to stay in Sao Tome, we were so happy with them therefore we also stayed there before we flied back to Europe. Amilson is extremly nice and helpful, helpled us a lot during our staying in Sao Tome and Principe --muito obrigada! :) Biya(not sure I wrote the name correctly) made delicious breakfast. I also love the beautiful garden and swimming pool, so relaxing having a beer beside the pool after the whole day out in the heat. highly recommended.

The owner Celia is super nice and helpful, and cooks delicious food. Very good breakfast with fresh juices, fruits, coffee, bread, omelet, etc. The self-made Marmalade is so yummy, I personally love the passion fruit one ( I normally do not eat any Marmalade). If you would like to experience the real Sao tome local life with a beautifully decorated room facing the sea, here is exactly your place to stay.

Amazing location and flexible management. Also, the 'caretaker' family next door is superbly helpful. If I go back to Sao Tome, this is where I'd stay, for sure. Highly recommended. I loved the stay. New building. Quiet A/C. Quiet fridge. Great, spacious bathroom. Hot water, internet, everything was amazing by Sao Tome standards.

My only problem was the noisy street. It is quiet at night, but the road noise starts around 5-6 am. I think applies to two of the four rooms at the guest house. The other two are further away from the road.

The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful despite not knowing any English. The owners are nice and friendly and helpful too. The breakfast was lovely. They had great variety. The size of the room was good. The views were beautiful.

The female manager was rude. From the very beginning, she didn't even greet us before asking me to pay. Then for the rest of the week, she didn't even say good morning or anything. The location is challenging without a hired car. The rooms are on the same site as the restaurant so it gets pretty loud. They didn't change our bedsheets for the first 3 nights, and our towels were never changed.

The property was very clean, the staff were incredible when we close the door with the keys inside 😂. The view from the balcony was really nice and we could easily achieve tamarindos beach by car where we spent a couple of hours!

The staff are very welcoming, and the owner was very helpful. There were English speaking young people who helped. The owner also speaks English .

The shower was small to enter and breakfast lacked variety. Just a plain omelette, bread and butter, tea or coffee, and bananas.

Just a little bit short on customer service. Hard to get front desk’s attention. No one checking up on us. Maybe put a mosquito coil in the lobby?

Best to avoid this property due to too many negative aspects. Issue 1: I requested an airport transfer. When I arrived at the airport at my scheduled time (5 am) there was no one present to collect me. I had to pay for a taxi to the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, it was closed. The taxi driver called the owner to wake him up. He then came an opened the front door to let me in. Issue 2: I moved rooms several times during my stay due to various issues. In my first room there was a slow leak from the toilet cistern. During the first night, this leak flooded the floor of my bathroom. Issue 3: The next day, after complaining about my flooded bathroom, the owner moved me to another room. However, the AC wasn't working in the new room which was like a sauna in the hot, humid weather. I ended up sleeping in the flooded room since the AC worked there. Issue 4: The next day, the leak in the toilet was repaired so I moved back to my original room. That day, a large truck delivered hundreds of sacks of animal feed which were stored directly under the guest house. The whole property stank of animal feed and it remained in storage for the rest of my stay. The stench was overwhelming. Lastly, on my 2nd last night we had a heavy rainstorm. I awoke in the morning, stepped out of bed into a puddle of water. The whole room had been flooded due to water entering the room through the window frames and walls. Best to stay elsewhere!
