“The apartment was in an old Soviet time three stories white-brick apartment building, the ones from 1950ies and 1960ies you can see all other the Baltics (and former Soviet states). I have been a bit curious of how these houses look inside, so when I noticed a renovated apartment in one of these houses in Kolka was offered for rental, I got interested. My wife was first a bit skeptical, but once there agreed it turned out to be a good idea.
The apartment was indeed in an old Soviet time apartment building. The building and the staircase and were quite worn out. However, the apartment itself was very tastefully renovated. The kitchen, bathroom and floor were all brand new, the kitchen well equipped, there was a working wifi and a large screen TV. At the same time the limed brick walls, the old style front door and inner doors were left intact. Thus you could enjoy the standard a spoiled tourist expects of a modern hotel room or short term rented apartment, and at the same time experience the retro Soviet nostalgia that made us curious.
The house was in the outskirts of the small village Kolka, 200 meters from the lovely long beach. You could have a nice <2 km walk along the beach to the extremely scenic Cape Kolka, the norther tip of Kurzeme/Courland were the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Riga meet.”
“Excellent and exceptional! Located just 500 m from the sea, the property is in a very quiet area thus it is perfect for those who want some serenity on their own. Above all, this is a pet-friendly property so don't worry if you forget to take your dog's favourite Kong with you. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and heating is provided everywhere. The kitchen has all for self-catering. There's even a cabinet for those who have to work while enjoing the peaceful surroundings. All communication with the owners met our expectations and thus we would love to be back there again.”
“I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful place and I can't recommend it enough. The accommodation was exceptional, with all the home appliances you could possibly need. The convenience of having everything at your fingertips made my stay extremely comfortable. Additionally, the owners were incredibly polite and welcoming, going out of their way to ensure that I had a pleasant experience. If you're looking for a great place to stay with excellent amenities and friendly hosts, this is definitely the spot for you.”
“Good hot shower, free toiletries in good amount. Kitchen equipped for basic cooking (electric stove), plates and cutlery provided, also some oil. Fridge, tea-kettle, some bags of tea and coffee. Bottled water was provided, or could be bought in the nearby shop (tap water did not seem good for drinking). Sleeping on sofa was not the favorite part of the stay for me, but wasn't horrible either. Kolka is modest size village, so everything is walking distance anyway, but having supermarket right next door was handy - basic food for a few days could be bought, if you want variety of fruit etc bring from the big cities. Smoked fish can be bought in the village. The view on the old church was nice. Forest right behind the house, sea a small walk on the other side of road. For foreign visitors, a cultural bonus: a chance to see soviet planning of living space (with some improvements). Certainly good value.”
“We liked that we got all the information we needed in advance. The premises were clean and exactly what we expected. Very nice sauna and a jacuzzi place. Our family had a great time. I believe we will come back to stay during the summer season.”
