We would like to stay another day or two in Wakkanai the next time we go and visit. As it was we spent less than an hour in Cape Soya, which was basically our main objective, the northernmost point in Hokkaido.
We enjoyed the park near the Gate of Ice and Snow as well as the observation tower. The view of the city from that vantage point was very nice.

It is situated at the northmost town of Hokkaido.
It is situated at the northmost town of Hokkaido. Staying next to eki help with transportation and moving around.
Famous for their seafood, Cape Soya for her black cow steak. Winter is a nice get away for busy people.
Despite local trying to promote tourism here, lack of interest by both tourist as well as local.
Summer is good time to drop by. The whole place is covered with wild daisy flowers. The temperature is very comfortable. Wakkanai park, one can still see late sakura here.
Noshapu sunset is beautiful.
If one is lucky, you may even observe parhelion or sun dog.
If you are taking the ferry to Rebun island, do go to the dock to see swimming oracs. I had observed hundreds but they did not surface due to fear of been hunted.
I like Wakkanai, both summer as well as winter.

It's a lovely place at the very northernmost part of Hokkaido. Highly recommend having a car, bit be careful of local wildlife, especially outside Wakkanai proper. Also recommend the White Path, though it's a bit out of the way (near Cape Soya); beautiful landscape and so many Hokkaido deer.
A charming and beautiful guesthouse in Wakkanai, only 500m from the train/bus station. It was immaculate in presentation, style, as well as cleanliness.
The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome, including helping out to get takeaway pizza and takoyaki by an adorable 80-year old - a local secret. The little sweet and card to welcome you in your room, and key chains made out of seashells were very lovely touches.
The amenities were very well kept (albeit new), with lovely natural scented soaps in the bathroom.
We stayed here for 2 nights on November 2023. Excellent hotel facilites includes Indoor and rooftop Onsen, free laundry, free office, free noodles at night. Staffs are very polite and cheerful. Although they cannot communicate with English, they try their best to use translation tools and body language to explain various issues with you. Walk 10 mins to Wakkanai JR station very convenient.
The staff was friendly. Though we had no common language, a translating device was used for effective communication. Very nice dinner was provided at short notice and the Japanese style breakfast was so filling. Food was very cheap.
The place was very clean. Access to the upper floor is by stairs. The room had a balcony with a sea view.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and my room was great! Enjoyed the 10th floor Onsen very much! I like really like the fact this hotel participates in the sustainability program and doesn’t waste energy/water cleaning the rooms/bedding unnecessarily wasting valuable resources which is the main reason I chose this property!
- Check in was smooth and staff is very friendly
- Nice common area right beside the check in desk
- Right in front of JR Wakkanai station!
- Seicomart conbini in front of the hostel
- Free parking (3 minute walk from the hostel)
- Small little storage unit inside of the bed (they provide you the keys)
Since this is my 2nd trip in Wakkanai and 2nd time I checked in in here, it bring back memories when I got stranded during the snow storm back in Feb 2021. The staff are so friendly and very welcoming and the whole place is very nice and clean. I manage to relax and enjoy my trip during my stay.
A very well-run and established accommodation in Wakkanai. I would definitely stay there again if I come to Wakkanai. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and nice, and breakfast is good. The place is quite lively with people hanging out in the dining room.
I especially liked the fact that the facilities were well maintained and clean though the hotel was probably a bit dated, everything was working and kept clean. Unlike other hotels I've used in Japan, the rooms here are big and offers the guests a lot of space.
The facilities were clean, location is good as well and you can request for a room facing the sea. Owner is very friendly and understanding, and uses a translating device so non-Japanese residents don’t have to worry about language barrier.
This is an old Japanese style hostel with a traditional Japanese room and common bath and toilette facility. The room was small but generally ok. But with the price, you can probably find a better hotel in the city. Breakfast is good.
The location was great, and the hostel is spacious. You can easily walk around the port from the hotel, and there was parking close by. The common area is really interesting. The coffee was good! The staff were very nice!
Great hotel, very comfortable room with wonderful sea views. We stayed a week and would like to have stayed longer! The room was also unusually spacious. We hope to return in the future.
It is nice overall, and it's very convenient that it is just in front of the JR station. You can even use the public bath of a nearby hotel if you tell them you stay here :)
