The hotel was the largest place we stayed at during our walk (Hadrian's Wall) but was well decorated and comfortable enjoying a fantastic location next to the River Tyne which would provide a nice place to relax on the terrace in the summer.
The food in the restaurant was good, served hot and well portioned, the breakfast was also hearty both enjoyed whilst overlooking the river and historic bridge crossing.

Wonderful location, remote and quiet. The bothy was immaculately clean, with all the facilities you could need. Underfloor heating was fabulous.
Lovely hotel with an observatory! We ate at the hotel and the food was very good and very reasonable ( venison bourginion with mash and veg £17.90). The wine list was very good. There are walks around the river and to near by villages. The people were very welcoming. It was full of wildlife: woodpeckers, mattins, squirrels etc.

Staff were friendly, and multi tasked well together, there was a lovely fruit plate in the room, along with biscuits, tea, coffee etc. We enjoyed a nicely presented evening meal, and a taster of chef's cauliflower soup, while we waited for our evening meal. The breakfast was multi choice, not either or but a case of just tell us what you want. So real good value for money.
Local convenience store was not far away if you had forgotten anything.

Sadly we were only at Wark for one night.
Sadly we were only at Wark for one night. However, we did have the chance to walk around this very pretty little village and enjoy the ambience caused by the wonderful North Tyne that runs through it. WE would happily return if the opportunity arrives again.

Beautiful village.
Beautiful village. Great place to explore the further area or to stay local and enjoy the walks available on the doorstep. I would love to be there on nights when the sky wasn't overcast to see the night sky - I hear it's a great spot for stargazing. Perfect area if you're interested in wildlife as well, was only there overnight but managed to see loads.

Very helpful staff from arrival through the duration of my stay. The bar and restaurant are excellent - great beers on tap and lovely food.
The location is an excellent base to explore Northumberland and the village itself is lovely, with the river running through.
If you’re interested in astronomy, there’s the observatory on site too, which is a good experience (weather permitting).
Highly recommend

Great base to explore Northumberland.
Great base to explore Northumberland. Corbridge, Hexham, The Roman Wall and Kielder are only a short distance away. Battlesteads pub is a cosy haven to relax in, after a day exploring especially the comfy chairs in front of the fire and food is exceptional served by friendly staff
This was an unplanned overnight stop on the way home from the Highlands. Easy to book, good value, last minute deal. All staff welcoming and very professional, excellent dinner and breakfast obviously a bit of a foodie destination. Would have loved to stay longer and explored the area. Really good walking country.
Our dog was welcomed with a dog towel, treats and a ball.
Room comfortable, clean and a comfy bed. Hope to be back.
Hotel working really hard to be as eco friendly and sustainable as possible.
We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay. Comfortable room, nice bar with good, tasty selection of beer and wines, lovely garden to sit in, nice meal and very, very good value.
Unusual and fascinating bonus of having an observatory behind hotel which we were lucky enough to enjoy on the particular night we stayed.
Would thoroughly recommend this place for a short stay and excellent value.
Excellent Breakfast with a good choice. We stayed midweek for £60 a night the room was very pretty modern and clean. The hotel is beautifully decorated and is surrounded by beautiful scenery , not too far from Hadrian's wall scenic route. A free bowl of fruit and tea coffee plus biscuits are included along with breakfast!
A lovely, comfortable rural hotel. Really spacious room with lovely bathroom including whirlpool bath. Very friendly staff who were very helpful . Breakfast superb and the evening meals were of very high standard and delicious. A good base for travelling to the many historical and archaeological attractions.
This was a proper gem of a find. A really comfortable old hotel which is tastefully decorated and restored. There's the "dark skies observatory too". Excellent location for exploring Hadrian's Wall and Northumberland in general.
Room 17 is right next to Room 1.
Dinner and breakfast were delicious.
The Hotel was great, Good food from the evening (though a limited menu) and to a good choice of breakfast food. The room though small size was well equipped and cleanliness excellent. Great location and relaxing area. Garden views a bonus too.
A fully refurbished village pub / hotel &restaurant with on site parking in a quiet village. Friendly local staff, happy to share their local knowledge of walks & nearby attractions. Hadrian’s Wall & Kielder Forest & Reservoir trails.
Very comfortable traditional country inn.
Parking great.
Location. Walking out the short distance to the North Tyne & Wark Bridge was a must.
Food excellent.
Good beer range in bar, even though very depleted on part of visit.
Couldn't fault it, a lovely stay. Great hotel, lovely comfortable and relaxing. Food was fantastic. Loved how they grew their own fruit and veg and used it in their dishes. We will definitely be back 10/10 for us 😍
Lovely warm room. Comfortable bed , slept well as very quiet . Nice shower .
Food on dinner menu was amazing . The quality of food would beat any restaurant in a big city. Inventive menu sourcing local produce .
Restaurant, food and accommodation were excellent. Had an electric car charging point which was truly excellent. The hotel very energy green with solar panels the like I'd never seen before.
We were visiting family in the area so the location was ideal, and near a hotel for an evening meal with friends. The bed was comfortable, and the heating and the shower were effective.
The dark sky observatory is outstanding, and the hotel is beautiful. The room was comfortable, with little bonuses like biscuits. The restaurant serves outstanding food.
Great hotel, great staff, great room, very good breakfast. Place full of character....and characters!!
Just stayed one night this time but, as always, treated grandly.
