If I could rate higher I would. Facilities as expected for 4* hotel what sets it apart is the quality of service. I was falling apart dealing with intense family issues and was acknowledged by staff with unobtrusive kindness and warmth. Their humanity was touching and meant I was able to cope with my personal situation while feeling restored in comfort.
Set in Slaley, 32 km from Beamish Museum, Rose & Crown offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

The continental breakfast was substantial, the staff were friendly and very helpful and the evening meal in the restaurant was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly book again, if we are in the area.

We selected this hotel as an emergency stopover. It met our needs, at that time. We were grateful for friendly and helpful staff. Our room was small, but suitable for a couple. The bathroom and shower were adequate for our needs. We really appreciated the pleasant dinner and breakfast cooked to order.

The overall design of the lodge was really beautiful. For example the entire lodge had stunning lighting & it was also really spacious too.

The hotel & spa themselves were lovely in beautiful surroundings. However the hotel food was not good. No room service. Tea / coffee / milk & sugar not replenished once despite asking reception to do so.

Lovely location n polite helpful staff.
Lovely location n polite helpful staff. A good size clean room. Nice evening meal, but would have preferred an order at breakfast rather than buffet style for hot food n drinks. Overall an enjoyable stay.

If you ask the staff anything, they are more than willing to accommodate your wishes. The dining area overlooked the golf course which was very relaxing to look at whilst eating. The nearest big town is Hexhsm which is about 7 miles away so if you want to go for a look around, you will need a vehicle. The hotel is just over half an hour from Beamish which is well worth a visit. It is also close to Hadrians Wall and a short drive to the old Roman museum. There is a book in the room highlighting places of interest. Dinner at the hotel can be a bit costly if you are on a budget so we atr a lot at the coach and horses in Hexham great value for money. Be careful on some of the narrower roads especially if there is traffic co.ing in the opposite direction.

We booked the hotel as we wanted to have a few days relaxation following our anniversary. We used a number of venues within the hotel, lounge areas for reading and relaxation. We used the lounge bar area for drinks and an evening meal, food was very good. Dinning room for breakfast and an evening meal, which were very nice. The spa was relaxing, we did not use the actual spa facilities but used the pool and jacuzzi. The hotel left a nice plate of goodies in our room when we arrived acknowledging our anniversary with a small card.
Although the hotel covers a big area, it is easy to navigate around, anyone with wheel chair needs would find it okay. I dont think there is anything specific that we would avoid. As there is a well known golf course with the hotel, you may need to check if there was an event on as there was a large number of golfers in the lounge bar after tea and can be a bit of a noisy atmosphere which is no problem for the hotel but might be if you want some peace and quiet.

We also went into Hexham after reading the food reviews by others, which said overpriced and low quality. We ate at ZYKA, an Indian restaurant, which was very well-priced and had 5-star food! They were very accommodating with no booking, and the food was the best I have had. It was a 14-minute drive into Hexham and highly worth it!
The staff are there but not available to help when needed I found. I tried to contact them during a night full of disturbance and nobody answered. The wake-up call did not come when ordered, and the jacuzzi needed to be fixed. However, the pool and spa were fantastic!! There is a slide and a lovely small pool for little kids, which I knew I would have booked for my little one.
The grounds are beautiful if you take a lovely walk through the golf course! They are exceptionally well kept, and the bunnies, hares and squirrels were abundant.
Lovely hotel in fantastic location. Staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and always with a smile. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Only took a mark away because they were a little dated. Spa facilities were good. Breakfast was very good. Didn't eat at the restaurant so cant comment. Lovely grounds to walk in and plenty of walks nearby. We had a very relaxing 3 nights and will definitely be staying there again.
The bed was clean and comfy. The bathroom, despite a few cracked/broken bits, was elegant and the water was hot. Lighting was good in the room and the TV and fridge worked. As a superior king, it had velvet armchairs so had seating options.
The car park is spacious (vast actually) but is down steepish inclines: the hotel had done its best to grit paths as it was snowy and icy.
Slaley hall is a beautiful place
Breakfast staff are polite
Hotel is clean and pleasant place to be
Evening food not so good if you have a problem they dont wish to resolve spent £80 on my meal then had to travel 11 miles 22 mile round trip
to get more food because my meal was poor at the hotel.
The hotel gave a feeling of being welcomed into a home, with genuine warm smiles -- very different from the dead-eyed plastic smiles in many of the chain hotels. I think this comes from being community-owned -- we have had a similar experience in other community-owned hotels.
Everything but the staff are definitely the best part of the hotel in particular Abbie our waitress she was absolutely fantastic and so friendly and helpful. A credit to the hotel
Price was good, comfortable accommodation good location for where we wanted to be, didn't get a chance to sample the pub as we stayed there for a wedding at Slaley Hall
