One of the best places i ever stayed in. I miscalculated my driving time, so i was supposed to arrive at 1 a.m. The owner and i found a solution, so i was able to check-in even later, at 2 a.m.
Nice family-style hotel, comfy beds, everything looks new, very clean, authentic, stunning vies from windows. Perharps the nicest breakfast i ever had (see photo). Close to famous Geiranger, also it is situated at the entrance of the national nature park.

The view from our room of the fjord was spectacular! I really enjoyed the little deck on our floor to sit and enjoy the magnificent scenery. The restaurant offered a wonderful menu and the food was so so good!

These were the cutest, coziest cabins! The night prior, we had stayed at very modern, container-ship cabins which were 'Instagrammable', but not comfortable AT ALL. While the cabins at Vinje weren't modern in any way, they were adorable, spacious, clean and had all the amenities of the 'modern' ones we stayed in, including a small kitchen where you can cook meals, if you'd like (Joker grocery store in town). The grounds were right alongside a river and small waterfall - and while we didn't have the time to hike, there appear to be many hiking trails nearby. The cabins are also right near the town core of Geiranger - easy to get to our kayaking adventure in the fjord and a delicious dinner at Brasserie Posten.
The staff were very friendly, check-in/check-out easy. They bake goods (croissants, buns) in the morning which are available for purchase at a small price. The only additional cost was for sheets/bedding. But overall, the cost to stay here was cheap, regardless of the add'l bedding cost.
The hotel lives out of the “good days” 20 years ago.
The hotel lives out of the “good days” 20 years ago. Ventilator was making noise at 10.00 pm, switched off only after a request. It was not possible to open window more than 2 centimeters. Very spacious dining rooms and restaurant , but small rooms (at least the ones not facing the road.

Hotel with long history (around 150 years of it) and a character. Nice and quiet. Personnel was welcoming and helpful. The views from the rooms are just amazing. You find yourself in the middle of the mountains far from civilization. You have plenty of opportunities for hiking and cycling or just relaxing on your couch, looking at the mountains. No TV in the room and who would need one anyway with the view through the window.
It's not a fancy modern hotel and that is what is good about it. If you want luxury, that's not the place for you. If you want genuine place with history, quietness and amazing nature, then you will love this hotel. It's not cheap, but that's normal for Norway and close to Geiranger fjord.
Be advised that buffet dinner is not included in the price of the room (only breakfast) and it is not cheap either.
