Hot tubs were amazing, bed was comfortable, good value for money, amenities in bathroom were nice, location was good. More backpacker than lodge but overall was really nice.

Lovely, helpful and friendly staff from the reception to the cleaning ladies. Really accommodating of us and our dog. Went over and above to make sure we were comfortable
Located just a 30-minute drive from Turoa Ski Area, Ossies Motels and Chalets offers a tranquil retreat. It features a sauna and BBQ facilities.

The chalet was cosy and the grounds were nice. We didn't actually see the staff but they left clear instructions. Definitely had more character than a motel room.

The location is great with really good views of Mt Ruapehu when the weather is clear. There are also walking and cycling trails nearby which are worth exploring

We re-visited the Chocolate Eclair shop after a number of years, now under new management, eclairs still amazing. Nice town with the accent on it's access to the snow fields. In the winter season the town would be buzzing but in April very quiet.
Our fish and chip dinner was very disappointing in spite of glowing internet reviews, wouldn't recommend. We should have asked a 'local'

Really enjoyed our dinner at Osteria - Italian, lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, delicious food, very popular. Enjoyed a 3 hr return walk into the Hapuawhenua Viaducts along the Old Coach track (need vehicle/shuttle to get to start) and great area for mountainbiking. Went for a drive up the mountain road with awesome views, and a stop at a nearby waterfall. Then a 1 hr native bush walk ( Mangawhero Forest walk) where friendly little fantails and robins flew about and you could hear the whoosh of wood pigeon high in the trees. Dinner at the PowderKeg - a pub setting with dining area. Again, lovely food and within walking distance of accommodation this time. Good supermarket in town and looked around shops (some vacant as is the case with many small rural towns now) and lovely playground/walkway at the Carrotland Adventure Park, then morning cuppa at the Chocolate eclair shop before departing town.

We went to Ohakune to walk the Tongariro Alpine crossing.
We went to Ohakune to walk the Tongariro Alpine crossing. it's a 35/40 min drive to the car park.
We didn't arrive until the afternoon, settled in then went out for dinner.
Hiked the next day and chilled the day after which we were very glad to rest as the hike for incredible but my body was a bit sore the next day!!
Left after checkout on the 3rd day.
The best place for dinner was the Cyprus tree (book as it getting really busy) it was one of the pricier places we ate but definitely worth it.
Osteria was nice too, cheaper, and had more of a pub feeling.
We went to the Mountain Rocks cafe for breakfast- it was cheap and cheerful. The coffee was very nice.
we had food off the menu but they had lots of cabinet food which looked nice too. Savoury and sweet treats.
Ohakune is a very small town, it suited us perfectly as we had activities to do. Lots of small walks and a waterfall too.

Very likely quieter in Summer than Winter.
Very likely quieter in Summer than Winter.
Lots of walks of easy access, some without a car. Lots of trail rides (MountainstoSea).
Enough shops + New World (small version of it!) and heaps of cafés and restaurants make Ohakune an easy town to venture from in Summer.
Large selection of accommodation, from backpackers to chalets to Powderhorn Chateau.

Ohakune is a nice stop on the railway between Auckland and Wellington. I was there one day and biked the Ohakune Old Coach Road. I could have stayed one day more and done hiking in the Tongariro National Park or done more biking. A problem is the distance (2.5 - 3 km) to walk between the railway station and the new town center.
Location was great right in the heart of ohakune for dinner places and shopping needs. The staff were very friendly and prompt with our needs using the spas which is amazing after a day of snowboarding, my mate and i shared a bunk room perfect on a budget small rooms but if ya go to ohakune you won't be staying in a room all day with all the activities to do there and concerts we caught kora and tiki tane gig went off at the powder keg that the staff organized our transportation so 5 star service from us
A wonderful place to stay, the cabin was beautiful, warm and cozy. We loved the fireplace and the spa pool at night with no light pollution the stars were bright and beautiful. The country surrounds and gardens are stunning. A great location, very close to Ohakune township, a few minutes drive. A delicious and beautiful breakfast served daily, thank you Dani for being a warm welcoming host. Highly recommend, we can't wait to come back and stay!
This BnB exceeds expectations. Only a few streets away from central Ohakune with three lovely spacious rooms, great facilities, and a fire burner. It was a lovely, cozy place with a well-maintained garden and a friendly cat. The host was very environmentally conscious so they left lots of eco-friendly products and locally sourced food items. Would definitely recommend staying here over any flashy hotel.
due to rain (traveling by motorcycle) and a failed attempt at the river canoe trip, I ended up staying at the Hobbit for way longer than anticipated, but my stay was fantastic and comfortable! Michelle who runs the lodge is a wonderful person and puts alot of effort in to keeping the lodge clean and comfy for guests! I would def recommend staying here if you are coming through Ohakune!
We had an amazing time in Ohakune and phenomenal stay in Ohakune. The accommodation is beautiful and the host was warm, informative and gave us tips on where to eat. We both loved the spa with the speakers and seeing the mountain. Stunning and would highly recommend.
We had a fantastic holiday!!
We loved the Spa Bath on Saturday night.
The Top 10 Ohakune is so close to everything and the Staff were all so helpful and cared about our stay.
The Cabins are extra comfy and surprisingly Soundproof.
Thanks for being Amazing!!!
Nice, modern and comfortable room with skytv and wifi. Convenient location although a little way from either end of town it is easy to get to either end for food or whatever. Friendly staff and great spa pool. For a short, cheap snow get away you can't beat it.
Very friendly helpful staff. I left some papers behind and they went out of their way to get them to me. Absolutely beautiful location with wonderful views of the volcano. Hot spa on the deck with a view was magical. Friendly family atmosphere and good food.
Our room was initially not as booked but was rectified promptly & with apologies. Facilities are awesome, enjoyed the spa, played pool & great breakfast. Very friendly staff & we enjoyed chatting with fellow guests in the lodge, lots of fun .
We were stuck inside as the ski weather was atrocious and the mountain was closed for all three days. Ossies allowed an early check-in and there was ample space in the 1 bedroom chalet for us to chill-congregate or each do our own thing.
Great friendly staff, great location. Close to walks and great pubs. Beds were fantastic especially considering the price and style of accommodation. Stayed in the loft studio, which was very spacious and comfortable.
Liked the spa, but it's in a shed and that shed could use some sprucing up - clean the roof, replace the rotting wood outside, stain the walls inside and put in some plants or simple artwork.
The room was a lovely size with a spacious sitting area. It was fantastic having a beautiful big deep bath to relax in. Comfortable bed.
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful
Absolutely gorgeous and historic building. It has been a staple of family holidays since my childhood! The shared facilities around the hotel are aging slightly but are still good.
Efficient comms from the owners and an amazing location. Warm and spacious. Affordable. Great spa and great shower. Comfy beds!! Better than the photos
