The Loft is clean and tastefully decorated historic building that has been tastefully updated while still respecting the original architectural charm. It was in an ideal location as we were in town for an event. We were able to walk to the event and to see the shops, which is always fun! The bed is very comfortable and there are plenty of linens for those cooler nights. We are repeat customers and plan to return again!
This resort is located at the southern end of Wallowa Lake, just 8 minutes' drive from the center of Joseph, Oregon. A seasonal outdoor pool and year-round hot tub are located on site.

Local and didn't have many options on a budget.
We're both battling cancer so money is tight.
I had to leave my dog in another state because they charge $40 .. I haven't ever left my dog so it was extremely uncomfortable.
Small cute mountain town. Great base for hiking. Lake is pretty.
Limited dining options, but nice little market in town with everything you need.
Great coffee and baked goods at the chocolates place so theyve got you covered for the essentials!

We just love Joseph and had been there before, but we needed...
We just love Joseph and had been there before, but we needed a quick weekend pick-me-up from our hometown of Walla Walla so headed there for a little getaway. Everything was perfect: the shops, the beautiful lake, and all in between until we got to dinner. We heard the Prime Rib at Stubborn Mule was awesome, so what did we have to lose. Long story, short, we lost two hours of our lives and then learned that our waiter FORGOT to put our order in. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I get that COVID has been rough on us all, but STUBBORN MULE and staff you need to work out the kinks!!! We will NEVER go back to that restaurant ever again!!! The rest of the trip was a joy!!

The town offers a nice glimpse of rural Oregon.
The town offers a nice glimpse of rural Oregon. Its period store-fronts (early 1900s) and tree-lined streets were attractive. But the beautiful bronze art pieces were an unexpected plus.
If you know about the famous "Chief Joseph," visiting his nearby gravesite as another unexpected opportunity.
Mule deer roamed freely in town, unmolested and unafraid. Nice! Seeing them in rural setting was equally enjoyable.
The shopkeepers were helpful and enforced the facemask COVID-19 expectations without being harsh. We felt safe.
Our visit in mid-October was too late to find some things open--like the visitor center. So we could not do the historic barn drive without the map brochure. But we liked the charm of the area enough that we would return again for another visit in the future.
Because of COVID-19, we brought our own food. So we did not try any of the restaurants, which were open for carryout or eating outside.
The routes are not well marked, so we had some trial and error adventures, because we were not sure about turns, etc. But we found the old (1908) octagonal barn by accident because of this. Otherwise, we would have missed it.
Because of concerns over the coronavirus, we avoided crowds. This was possible in mid-October. But we missed some of the art galleries. We'll have to do them later, assuming life returns to normal.

Great place to relax and unwind.
Great place to relax and unwind. Very friendly town and a lot of great hiking. We parked the car and strolled thru town and shopped. We had a great lunch on a outdoor patio, and they even welcomed our two pups. We will definitely be back.
