The hotel location was great. We enjoyed hanging out in the great hall. There was plenty of comfortable seating, and the bartender was very attentive.

The host generously offered us a free upgrade to the room we had booked, which was lovely with private bathroom, shower, and bathtub. The room, and esp the bed, was very comfortable, and the place is very quiet for a good night's sleep. Nice sun porch attached to the room; the room was also spacious with plenty of closet space. Franklin Manor is a beautifully restored home and is on the National Register. The front porch is lovely for reading on the Adirondack rockers or the swing. The host shared the history of the Manor, and it was interesting that it had been a convent for some 40 years for the Carmelite nuns who were cloistered. The rooms on the ground floor are also beautifully appointed, with period wallpapers, including by designer Bradbury & Bradbury in the foyer. The library is well stocked with books ranging from travel, to the Adirondack area, to literature and French philosophy (lots of Roland Barthes!) to journalism and physics. We were encouraged to explore other parts of the house in the public areas and the other rooms on the upper floor since we were the only guests during our stay. The no-shoes policy is fine to keep the hard wood floors and carpets clean; you can wear slippers or shoes that have not been outside, but should not enter the house in street shoes. The house is also furnished with some lovely pieces from the host and his wife's family (grandfather clock, china, etc). The Manor is very close to the attractions such as Lake Saranac, hiking trails, river walks, and the restaurants and TB museum in town...all within walking distance. Easy to park on the driveway on the premises, and the host shared recommended restaurants in the area.

The room was exceptionally clean, with no off-putting "old hotel" odors or "cover-up" scents. The bed was vey comfortable, with a mattress that felt like new. The hot water was hot within seconds. The room rate was very fair for the total eclipse weekend. I am not a breakfast person, so I did not partake or even observe what was offered. I did not log onto the motel's wifi, choosing to use my own mobile "hotspot."
This Lake Placid hotel is located in the Adirondack Mountains, 2953 feet away from Lake Placid Conference Center. Rooms at Bluebird Lake Placid offer bay windows and cable TV.

Saranac Lake has come a long way since I lived there 50 years ago. Clean with many new restaurant choices. More affordable, less crowded, and more local than touristy Lake Placid. Recommended day trips to Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake and the incredible array of hiking trails at Paul Smith's College a half hour away.

Beauty of the house and surroundings, size of the room, closeness to town and main sites were all good. Breakfast could be improved in terms of the time of availability and more healthy options; the cleaning fee is absurd, esp when there is no value for the guest since rooms are only cleaned after check out and should at least be tidied during the stay.

This is a very biased review as the weather was cool, windy and rainy, which colored our time there!! Add to that the absolute dump we stayed in, it was booked the same day, but, still no excuse!!
We arrived on Sunday, Aug. 6th at 7:00pm in Saranac. Not wanting to eat in the nasty apt, I searched for restaurants. Most closed at 7:30-8, but La Bella Ristorante was open till 8:30 and said coming in at 8 was not a problem. This is a family owned restaurant and everyone working there was related. Family is originally from Kosovo. The daughter & a young man waited on us. We had veal piccata and fettuccini Alfredo with salads & bread and a bottle of wine. Food was delicious!! The family was delightful and we WAAAY overstayed our time as my husband had spent time in Kosovo, is an Immigration Attorney and we had lots of conversation!! I would not hesitate to recommend the place!!

This little town is eclectic and fun.
This little town is eclectic and fun. We have spent lots of time in lake placid but saranac is not crowded. They have great restaurants and the most friendly people. We prefer saranac over lake placid more every time we stay here.

The best part of Saranac Lake, besides the natural beauty is the proximity to Lake Placid! Lake Placid is only about 15 minutes away and has the more tourist and things to do, while Saranac Lake is more quiet and quaint, so you have the best of both worlds. I have stayed in Lake Placid and in Saranac Lake and both were great! I personally liked staying in Saranac and driving into Lake Placid when I wanted to ratchet up the fun!

The area is full of lakes so you have a variety.
The area is full of lakes so you have a variety. You can rent motor boats and canoes and use SUPs. It’s a short drive into Lake Placid if you want to see the Olympic area and quaint town. We had a few meals at Little Italy and they were fantastic. We had family in the area so we spent time visiting with them. We enjoyed the river walk area in town and the park on Lake flower is pretty and had some visiting Canadian Geese. A lot of the attractions are not open yet, but I’m sure they will be soon.
A typical road side motel on the Saranac lake. Directly on the busy through going road there’s a lot of traffic noise in the room. The room itself is ok, a road side motel room, nothing more nothing less. The lake is very busy and not paticulary nice here. Saranac town is over the hill with most places boarded up and out of business. Our family left soon and went to nicer parts of the Adirondack.
The hotel is beautiful and clean. Staff was very friendly and accommodating with our family. My hubby and I wanted to grab a drink on our last night after we had a dip in the pool, in our robes I might add without our wallets. We didn’t realize that it was passed the restaurant’s closing time but the front desk and restaurant were happy to accommodate us and made us feel welcomed!
Cute little cabin with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms that we shared with our friends. This is a beautiful setting with fire pits and chairs. There was a hiking trail right behind the property and a convenience store around the corner. It was close to Lake Placid and we also went up to White Face Mountain. Ideal for a 2 night stay. We loved it.
Beautiful view from our second floor corner room with a balcony facing the water. The on-site kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards that are available without reservation or additional charge were a huge plus as we took these out on Saranac Lake several times each day of our stay.
Gorgeous home with history. Feels like a home away from home. Super clean and well kept. Great proximity to Lake Placid and downtown Saranac Lake and the lake. The owners are so warm and welcoming, truly made our stay super enjoyable. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway!
The price I paid for this run down motel would cover an updated hotel with an indoor pool and free breakfast in most other cities. The whole area is outrageously inflated price wise, so this was the only option unless I wanted to sieve $600/night. At least it was clean.
I love the suite. The place is very clean, staff is very nice and attentitve. The view of Saranac Lake is spectacular! Having a suite with a soaking tub is a major plus. Love that there's Acqua Di Parma as the main choice of personal hygenie supplies too.
Breakfast was good; a lot of options and very convenient. Given I was doing the Ironman Lake Placid on Sunday my breakfast was key. So that worked out very well.
Also, all the staff were super friendly and helpful.
This location is perfect for every kind of activity!!
Shopping in Lake Placid, go hiking & fishing secluded trout ponds or just hanging with locals in local eateries…all from a “true” Adirondack’s style setting.
The bed and pillows were super comfortable and the hotel was very clean. The hotel had a beautiful view of the lake and close to Lake Placid and lots of amazing hiking trails.
Loved the updated renovation to the hotel and was located in walking distance of downtown. Beds were very comfortable and the one store in hotel is fabulous.
