Koyasan
Situated just 38 km from Kishi Station, 高野山 宿坊 普門院 -Koyasan Shukubo Fumonin- features accommodation in Koyasan with access to a garden, a shared lounge, as well as a lift. Featuring free private parking, the 3-star ryokan is 38 km from Tama Museum. The ryokan has family rooms. This is the best value for memories that we have experienced so far in Japan. From the moment you enter: the guidelines are clear but kind, the staff are welcoming, and the peacefulness surrounds you. If you're physically able, we recommend booking one of the traditional tatami mat rooms for a fuller experience. The food leaves you feeling full but not heavy as it's vegetarian. The whole space is very clean. Certainly get to the main hall early in the morning for a calm beginning to observing the monks' morning sutras. They will hold luggage pre and post check in/out, so explore the town of Koya San. The nearby temples and especially the cemetery warrant about 1 hour each to fully experience them. The Yukata traditional loungewear they provide may (and is encouraged to) be worn everywhere except morning prayers. The onsen within the building is open after dinner until ~9pm. Check it out. Make sure to wash yourself within the onsen room before entering. Lastly, read the information they provide to you the day before your check in so that you are prepared and respectful.

It is located 39 km from Tama Museum and provides luggage storage space. Itakiso Shrine is 45 km away and Jodo-ji Temple is 45 km from the ryokan. Everyone there was wonderful, willing to help even with the language barrier. The dinner and breakfast were delicious (if you stay more than one night, note that you'll eat the same dinner and breakfast) The room and all the temple was super clean and calm. It was a great place to stay! I really love the ceremonies that I could witness, meditation in the evening, morning ceremony and goma ceremony (fire ceremony). The one thing I was surprised by is that the showers are "Onsen Showers" so it's in a commun room, with little stools where you can clean yourself before entering the bath. Not a negative point, just something I wasn't expecting. Thanks to all the staff there for a wonderful stay!

The room was comfortable, warm and well sized. It was a traditional Japanese room with sliding doors, tatami floors and a futon bed. The host, Ike, and his wife prepared the most amazing dinner for us and kindly catered to me being vegetarian. The next day I also had a tasty breakfast and bento box lunch prepared for me which set me up well for my hike. The host was polite and helpful. It was enjoyable having a communal dinner with the other guests and made for a lovely atmosphere.
Unique experience of lodging in a beautiful buddhist temple. The place has a very special atmosphere. The (buddhist vegetarian) dinner and breakfast were rich and very tasty. The staff was super welcoming and friendly. Good onsen bath. Traditional Japanese-style room (tatami mats and futon beds) was really spatious and comfortable.
Wonderful and tasteful older style traditional meets modern Japanese inn with terrific onsen and amazing breakfast buffet. Staff were so incredibly friendly and kind. Comfy rooms and bedding. The kids loved the free drink stations and evening soup stand was delicious.
Now that is a real Japanese Ryokan. From the outside it looks very old (balconny) but it is really clean and taking care of. The bath are realy japanese onsen and it was great. Very easy to call a Taxi and it is 2 minutes from one of nicest beach in my life
the quality of the food was amazing - the variety of foods was top class - the three types of onsen were very enjoyable. I particularly liked the outdoor onsen - the staff who helped us catch buses were very helpful- the location right on the bus route and right on the river with the hot springs was wonderful.
I had a great time in Nagisaya Hotel. The room is in traditionnel japanese style (tatami and futon on floor) and had a wonderful view on the sea. The hotel offers interior and exterior onsen where I had my best time with the view on the moutain and a little on the sea (only men onsen has total view on the sea, women are on the other side). The staff is really friendly.
The property had an onsen. The room was a traditional tatami room with futons to sleep in. We needed to have luggage moved to another guest house as we were trekking, and the weight of our backpacks would have slowed us down. The guest house staff arranged for a transport company to collect out packs the next day and it arrived at the destination the same day. Brilliant service and so grateful for their help.
Very welcoming monks Very close to the bus station and at a walking distance from the temples (careful, you must be back to the ryokan by 5pm) Dinner and breakfast (vegetarian) are delicious and served directly in the room The room was cosy and traditional, with comfortable futons, and yukatas are available There is a large hot tub, similar to an onsen to be shared with the other guests, this is where you shower too (you must be comfortable with nudity) We attended the morning ceremony, a unique moment
Cute guesthouse with a nice small onsen bath. My room was huge, the tatami mat a little thin but comfortable enough. Lovely owners.
