Japanese-style rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and traditional futon bedding, while Western rooms come with beds and a sofa. All rooms all soundproof and air-conditioned, and fitted with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an attached bathroom. We stayed in a room with a private mineral bath. The room was as large as an apartment, with its own foyer, and areas that could be contained by beautiful screen doors. We loved the space, the views and the wonderful service, but especially the food and the ritual of having our own private dining space, which evidently goes with the ‘special’ rooms. This is a great place to unwind, leaving the rest of the world behind! Staff were beyond excellent! If the canal boat is running its a great excursion to take. Food was just superb.

Guests can also enjoy the public indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths and relax with a massage. A free shuttle is available from JR Takatsuki Train Station, which is a 15-minute drive away. Located in Hikone, within less than 1 km of Hikone Castle and 7.2 km of Maibara Station, Honmachi Juku provides accommodation with a garden and free WiFi as well as free private parking for guests who drive. This 2-star ryokan offers a shared lounge. The ryokan features family rooms. The host Natsuhara-san really went above and beyond for me, he is very kind. The cleaning ladies who come in the morning are also very kind and we did our best to communicate through the language barrier. Overall I had a great time! It's very close to Hikone Castle and in the historical town area so it's easy to see the attractions.

Even on a rainy day, the surroundings remain stunning. The spacious rooms and excellent facilities provide a comfortable stay, and to top it off, my room features a luxurious massage chair for ultimate comfort. The hotel provide Japanese robes with a variety of colorful options that adorable and Instagrammable. Additionally, the breakfast at this hotel offers a wide selection of delicious and luxurious dishes. It is truly one of the most indulgent breakfast experiences.

Each room features a private bathroom with a bathtub made of Cypress wood, filled with hot water from the local hot spring. Everything. The service, the quality, the staff, the facilities everything was exceptional!

Guests at the ryokan will be able to enjoy activities in and around Takashima, like fishing. The place is a little bit odd yes, but it’s a wonderful example of a traditional Japanese hospitality (even if the building doesn’t look traditional… but 70s) the hot bath was one of the best I ever had in Japan and the food was incredible. And I paid only 8250 yen for a half course stay (1 person). And the owner did his best to explain everything (with a digital language translator).

Set 46 km from Sanzen-in Temple, Marumo Ryokan offers 1-star accommodation in Takashima and features a garden. A public bath is available for guests. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Breakfast was great, it had a Japanese style public bath, location is close enough to a JR station.

Located in Hikone, Kiyotaki Ryokan offers Japanese-style accommodations, Japanese home-style cooking and free Wi-Fi, a 20-minute walk from national treasure Hikone Castle. It’s a 12-minute drive from the Sawayama Castle remains. Drinks vending machines are on-site, and free parking is available upon reservation. This was probably the best accommodation I had so far. It is true when they say - the further you go from the big cities, the more sympathetic and kind people you meet. I was very skeptical about my stay in the ryokan, as the pictures were not that promising and the price was quite low. As well as the city of Hikone is not that big (probably it is a small town area). But when I came in the evening after a full-day trip, I saw a very well made accommodation, exceptionally clean and a host, who met me with a very warm greeting! He showed me all of the facilities and we had a nice chat. I should admit - it is very important when you are coming late and plus to that you are alone. Later he offered me a dinner and I was more then amazed by how tasty and big it was for that price! I had 5 or more dishes (do not remember exactly as there were a lot), prepared on a beautiful tableware. I really felt like I was home. The lobby area was probably repaired - as it has nothing similar with the photos from the booking.com. Now it has a very clean and light colored design. It was visible from the first sight, that the host treats the hotel as if it was his own house, greeting everyone with open arms and heart. I would dream to meet such hosts in Kyoto, Osaka and other big cities. But so far, I met the best host in Hikone town. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the host-just found his name now. Only a 5-minute drive from JR Ogoto Onsen Station with the complimentary shuttle, hotel Yuzanso features Japanese-style rooms with a private open-air hot spring bath and spectacular views of Biwako Lake. The hotel also offers massage treatments and a sauna. JR Ogoto Onsen Station offers a direct transit in 20 minutes to Kyoto Station. Good service from the friendly staff. Food and private onsen were great too.
