Rooms with contemporary Japanese design are fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and come with a private open-air bath. Also comes with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a seating area with low table. Stunning place between the mountains with natural hot springs. The hotel has secluded rooms with private pools with a wonderful view of the forest and garden. Spacious rooms with tatami mats, where they served us dinner and breakfast. The dinner was definitely a great experience and totally worth the money. The same goes for breakfast. Stuff was extremely attentive and really kind. Our biggest regret is that we have booked only one night.

Takayama City, Takayama

Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015. We absolutely loved this Ryokan and stayed here for multiple nights. The reasons why we loved this place and plan to come back are: (1) LOCATION! Easy to find, its just a straight 15min walk from the station on the main road and tucked in a quiet alley way by the river. Its across the river (1min walk) from the Morning Market and close to all the main sights + restaurants. Cannot get any better than this. Side note: after breakfast walk to the morning market and buy some warm pudding from the street vendor - its home made. My only regret is not eating more of it. (2) ROOM! The beds are comfortable and rooms are big. The views from the rooms are amazing. (3) FOOD! Food is delicious - we highly recommend getting the breakfast and dinner sets if possible. They change the menu each day. Its a very traditional setting with lots of great food - you will not be hungry afterwards. (4) ONSEN! The onsen in this Ryokan is the best. Very clean and comfortable. (5) STAFF! Service is 10 out of 10. The owners and staff are so kind, they will set your room each night and leave some tea + snacks in your room to unwind when you get back from walking around town. They greeted us with a green tea ceremony. They are wonderful.

An exceptional ryokan, very helpful staff, upon arrival we received a yukata (traditional Japanese clothing) and they even allowed us to go out with the yukata for a walk in the city. Very good breakfast (Japanese or European style to choose from) The staff went out of their way to accommodate the vegetarian/gluten free meal. Onsen is very spacious, and you can also order a hot pool for private use.
A very nice ryokan with friendly staff, a bookable private onsen, a lovely lounge / kitchen area, and terrific kaiseki breakfast. The hotel is a nice boutique size and a very pleasant place to stay. A bit of a walk to the station and the historic centre, but not too bad. Yukata etc provided.
- the staff was exceptional courteous and very helpful - Beautiful traditional room with comfortable futon beds - good location near center of Gero - free water, tea and coffee and breakfast included - free yukata to wear - try the private onsen! It is very relaxing, calming and has a nice view on a little garden
The hotel feels ever so slightly on the older side, but in my opinion that works in its favour, as it adds to its charm. Everything was styled as a proper ryokan, the whole hotel has tatami floor. The top level open air Onsen is just fantastic, looking over the city (it was snowing very heavy while I was there, which made it even better). The breakfast buffet is also like a Japanese Kaiseki breakfast, amazing! Staff were also very friendly and polite like most places in Japan.
This Ryokan has a “luxury” and modern feel to it. It could easily be branded as Aman or a Rosewood Hotel since the upkeep and products / amenities used are of very high quality. The room was incredible and very tastefully designed; a mix between dark and light wood. Beds were super comfy, amazing Yukatas to wear around the hotel. Small private onsen and 2 semi private onsen with great Mountain View. Dinner and breakfast were incredible and only high quality and seasonal ingredients were used.
Special place that is part boutique hotel, part ryokan. Great value and 5 star service. We loved the traditional tatami floors, comfortable futon, traditional robes to wear around the property and the impressive Japanese breakfast. Can book a soak in private spa after a day of sightseeing. Can’t go wrong.
Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.
Vegetarian traditional breakfast was offered upon request! We loved it and our whole stay at this traditional Ryokan! The Onsen is not too hot (still hot haha) and super relaxing. There are even two private Onsen available free of charge (min. 2 people). The rooms are very beautiful and quiet and you’ve got the opportunity to wear Yukata during your stay. We can highly recommend and would love to come back!
Food is the highlight here. Both of the breakfasts I had were wonderful feasts, with warm dishes cooked on little burners at the table. One had crab, beef and tofu stew, eggs, bacon, sausage, all in one meal. The onsen are great. Staff are friendly. All the usual trappings of a Ryokan are here, sandals, tatami, yukata, keys with huge blocky keyrings
