Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThe breakfasts were average to say the least. Not sure if it's a country thing but the salt was less in absolutely everything. Rooms are very small. Even our family room hardly any space to move around so bare that in mind. Any transfers and taxis and overpriced ridiculously!!! Be prepared! Seriously, you not ready for the cost to travel.
Neat and tidy. Animals all around. Food fairly priced. Drinks are not worth it. Overpriced. Staff are friendly and always willing to assist. A great welcome we had which made us feel happy and calm. Access to falls is free.

GermanySwimming pool area really needs update. Towels are disastrously old (with holes) and normally absent, wait time over 30 min to get one. Pool interior is some blue ‘paint’ that bleeds on the feet.
1. Location, location, location - minutes from Victoria falls 2. well designed rooms 3. Animals roaming the grounds 4. Great breakfast and reasonable choice at pool restaurant

MexicoThere are a few recommendations I’d like to share. The hotel’s airport transfer service is exceptionally expensive, ( 4 times the price we found in Google) and you can find more budget-friendly options outside. Similarly, you can often find cheaper tour options elsewhere for the same experiences offered by the hotel. I suggest requesting room disinfection as there were quite a few mosquitoes. After disinfection, it was much more comfortable. The main issue was the early checkout at 11:00 AM, and the front desk was not accommodating when we asked for a later checkout, at least by 2:00 PM. They claimed the hotel was fully booked, but after showing available rooms online, they reluctantly agreed to extend our checkout until 1:00 PM. This was an unpleasant moment after staying with them for five nights.
Avani is undeniably a stunning hotel, boasting beautiful decor and meticulously maintained gardens where you can spot zebras, antelopes, and even giraffes. The pool provides a tranquil oasis after a tiring day of visiting the falls. The rooms are beautifully decorated and well-equipped with excellent amenities. The hotel’s prime location right at the entrance of the falls is definitely a plus. The breakfast offers a great variety, although I’d recommend expanding the selection of fresh fruits and serving fresh juices instead of boxed ones.

ItalyThere was a huge congress/ meeting going on when we arrived with hundreds of participants in the lodge with part of the facilities dedicated to them only. Loud music and entertainments which really disturbed in my opinion the quietness of the place. Or at least what I was expecting. It is over priced for what your get Rooms are small.
Location is great to access the Waterfalls. Animals are going around the property Dinner ( buffet ) was pretty good and breakfast was exceptional. Very friendly and helpful staff.

United KingdomWhilst our stay was great - value for money wise we would not stay again. The rooms are not huge and apart from location and staff, there is nothing that warrants the very high price tag in relation to other places we have stayed. Most frustrating thing was that they have an activities desk and a list of activities and prices are available prior so (unlike normal) we didn't research in very much detail. Upon arrival we were so very disappointed to find that the prices were wrong by quite a bit (different season prices and added transfer costs), almost all activities are only available in the morning so if limited number of nights stay it limits the activities you can do and the whitewater rafting didn't state that during the month we visited age restrictions applied (we knew the rafting was varied for the river conditions but no mention of age). The Boma dinner only runs on certain nights so we missed that and the only trip we did take via the desk was late. After much stress and disappointment after looking forward to an action packed stay we managed to source our own activities and had a great stay but paying so much for the Avani I felt a bit annoyed just at the lack of relevant information. Can definitely recommend https://www.shockwavevictoriafalls.com/ for rafting - such a fabulous company and trip and for any travels and other activities some brilliant service from https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g298089-d15224113-Reviews-Matmeja_Transfers_and_Tours-Livingstone_Southern_Province.html for everything we needed

United StatesFamily had to split rooms so we had to pay for an additional room with no discount. Only 2 per room which was ok but why have to pay full price for another room. I was in the hotel industry for 30 years and this hotel did not accommodate our request for lower rate!! :(

United States1. The water in the shower was too hot. The taps are cumbersome to adjust the water temperature. You need to upgrade to a regulator type faucet. 2. There’s no exhaust fan in the bathroom. The excessive steam can be suffocating. 3. The door key card needs to be upgraded to a more modern ‘tap mechanism’. The current key card doesn’t work often. One has to walk to the reception to reset it. And if there are more than one key cards for the room, the system resets all of the cards for that room, thus locking out the other person. This happened several times during my stay. It can be very annoying and irritating.
Location was great. Surroundings were fantastic. The restaurant and breakfast arrangements were superb. Proximity to the Falls is the highlight of the resort.
