It has a lot of large blankets and carpets in the rooms which made me question how often they get washed, so I feel like the rooms aren't extremely sanitized.

The architecture of the house is very nice and cozy. We reserved a small room but they gave us a bigger one for the same price as the smaller one was being renovated. The older lady serving us was very sympathetic, she didn't speak English but tried to speak to us in German. The house has a rustic cluttery style, there is a cat, which is good because there are mice in the walls. The environment is beautiful, there's a lake and some parks to walk in, also there's a restaurant right next to the hotel. The hotel is like an old log house, it has good vibes and we slept really well there.

Breakfast: Appetizer (Cold plate) - Bigger than the pancake serving. You could try the reverse, or eliminate the cold plate altogether and save. Berry preserves + pancakes were very tasty. Dinner: Salmon - Great meal. (It is customary to serve a slice of lemon with the fish.)

Great experience, vintage feeling. However, it is not quite place at all. Do not hope to sleep in silence. Take your ear plugs with you. A lot of events are happening in evenings, but sound isolation is not that good. Otherwise, the destination is perfect for long walkings around the Rundale palace, and palace visiting. Breakfast (omelette or pancakes) was simple and tasty, the coffee was the best in Zemgale. The host lady is very nice and chatty. Definitely will come back again.

Near the Rundale castle. Warm room. Perfectly equipped kitchen. I liked the old times in the house. Nice pictures around. Really cosy house.

Nothing to dislike.

Winderful 18 century built cottage with generous hosts. Very sincere ⁰⁹⁰ welcome, plenriful choices for breakfast.Good quality coffee, nice bedding.Warm and cozy in wintertime. Big lounge with fireplace, library & kitchenet. Communal fridge.Stone throw away from Rundale palace&gardens. Free parking. Very polite and helpful staff. It was a true pleasure to stay. Very much recommended at any season but in winter with generous snow, it was a magical experience.

Plumbing smelled a bit when it was raining. That's it. Everything else was super cool. Also, if you don't have a car, it's super hard to get to.

Super charming rustic converted farmhouse! It's on the estate property, cute cafe, beautiful gardens, friendly staff. It's small, local, and real and it deserves your attention! Decor is like one might imagine life was like 60 years ago. Perfect roadtrip stop!

The service looked a little bit strange, you should try that staff would notice you. There are kettles, cups and even sugar in the rooms what is great. But it`s supposed that guest should bring a bag of tea with them when arriving what is strange.

This is a place I'm happy to recommend from my ❤️. Balta Maja is full of history and we were happy to learn more about it from the owner at our first visit few years ago. All rooms are clean and excellent beds. Rundale palace and a nice restaurant next to Balta Maja are also worth to visit. Kind staff makes your visit pleasant !

Night time was fire alarm, so I did not sleep as well as usually. Probably some client was smoking in a room.

We were Finnish group driving humanitarian aid to Ukraine. I've often made such trips and also slept in this place. Very interesting hotel near magnificent baroque palace. Shame that we always have to leave so early.

apartments, Balta Maja, with its own spirit and history. This is a unique place for those looking for a different accommodation. The room is small, but cozy and cute. A hanging chair made it possible to relax with a book. In the morning, you can make coffee in your room and enjoy it when you go outside without anyone disturbing you. This is a corner of heaven on earth. ​

since the guest house was fully booked, loud music outside was a bit too loud and played a bit too late.

Everything was great, especially charming owner of the guest house. She was very nice, talkative and gave us many great advices about surroundings. Breakfast was very tasty and location just perfect.
