Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAC not great, even at 16ºC. No fridge in room, but I knew that prior to booking. I'm not sure it is the best value accommodation in Vientiane. Relatively higher in price than some others and I have stayed in larger, better equipped accommodation for less just three months prior.
Booked a second stay here in the same week as I travelled out of Vientiane for a couple of days mid-week. Different room, same quality as before. Laundry service was cheap and I was able to leave it with them to complete while I was away between stays.

AustraliaThe AC did the job, but even on the lowest setting of 16ºC I can't say it felt "cold". Seems decent AC is hard to find in Laos generally. Took some time to cool the room down, noticeable during peak ASEAN summer in April. I knew before booking, so not fair not reducing my rating. But no refrigerator in the room, which is less convenient and means room temperature water bottles. I also knew this prior to booking, but I prefer to have a shower screen or curtain for the shower in the bathroom. Not a deal-breaker, but I feel it is better than having wet bathroom floors when the bathroom is not specifically a wet area.
Great location right in the centre of town and close to everything that's good in Vientiane. An older building with some character and charm, but everything works, staff are helpful, breakfast is adequate for $US5 and served promptly. Beds are firm, but this is common around Asia and no problem for me. You also only get a top sheet for bedding, but this is also conventional in this region.

Hong KongRoom advertised with a balcony and view. There was technically a balcony but not useable and no view. Possible higher floors do?. I was on 3rd floor. Some facilities unnecessarily cheap - like coat hangers
Twin room was large with dark wood floors and furnishing, Aircon and ceiling fan. The location was close to the main restaurant areas but not on a crowded street. As room set back from the road it was quiet. Porter service provided.

United KingdomNothing! Just be aware that there is no lift, so you will have to take the stairs up (staff helped us with our bags); breakfast is not included but is available for $5 at the quiet cafe that’s part of the hotel.
Lovely old building with lots of character, comfortable room with good air conditioning (much needed as it was over 40C!) and friendly staff who were very helpful in arranging things for us. It was Laos new year while we there, and this felt like a sanctuary from the parties taking place across the city!

United KingdomAircon was struggling a little to cool the room, but to be fair to the hotel it was unusually warm during our stay due to a regional heatwave!!
Good Location, close to the riverfront and night market with plenty of places to eat/drink/get coffee nearby. Staff were really friendly. The rooms have a pretty traditional decor (as we expected from the photos) which seems appropriate for Laos - but some might find a little dark. Hotel was calm and quiet and reasonable two night's sleep. Breakfast was nicely presented and perfectly adequate (for us!)

AustraliaAn elevator would have been nice but walking up the wide colonial stairway offset this. The staff helped in carrying the bags up and down.
The hotel building is of a colonial style, maybe of French origin, with high ceilings - The French colonial influence I wanted to experience in Vientiane.. The ground floor had the entrance/reception area and a restaurant with nice timber decor. Behind this leading to the rooms is an atrium area. The building doesn't have an elevator and stairway was wide, even ornate. There were three of us travelling so I booked the large room on the upper floor. The room was airconditioned and had a two French doors leading onto a small balconies and a mezzanine with a double bed. The decor was of the colonial style matching the building and was well kept. The staff were very helpful and the location was close to the night market. We had a pleasant stay.

Observed from the busy street, the hotel appears not particularly luxurious, but by entering, what you see and feel is a very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere and a well maintained interior, which invites you to relax and enjoy the stay. Hotel Khamvongsa is like a calm oasis in the busy and noisy town.
