Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChinaOf all the places I visited in Kyrgyzstan over the last one week, I seem to have developed a certain fondness for Karakol - a picturesque little town surrounded by snow-capped peaks of the Tianshan Mountains, south-east of Lake Issyk-kul. Beyond the natural beauty of the place and its friendly people, what made my visit really special was the familial atmosphere of the lovely homestay, run by Ahmed and Family. Not too far from a supermarket and café, and within walking distance of the city centre, Hillside Karakol is perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood. It has clean, adequately sized rooms with attached bathrooms. The large common dining and kitchen area on the ground floor is a great hangout if you're traveling in a biggish group (we were six). Ahmed helped us order-in delicious food from a restaurant in town for dinner both nights. And then at breakfast, when I tasted their freshly made pancakes with the homemade blackberry and apricot jams, I was immediately hooked even though I'm neither into pancakes nor breakfast in general. We had originally planned to stay a single night but had to extend because of car trouble. Luckily, Ahmed was able to accommodate us at very short notice. He even put us in touch with Kudrat who runs a travel agency (https://g.co/kgs/ktJezZQ) and arranged our journey back to Bishkek that included a couple of sightseeing stops along the south shoreline of the lake. A wonderful experience overall, made all the more easier with Ahmed and Kudrat's grasp over the English language, which meant not having to resort to Google Translate every other second. Adding one suggestion for Ahmed at Hillside Karakol on behalf of a friend from our group - please think of equipping the rooms with some bedside reading light. Thank you again... I'll be back!

United Arab EmiratesAhmet and his wife were so welcoming and helpful - really made us feel at home and provided great recommendations for local restaurants. Really comfy, warm and well-designed rooms - there's also a drying room for ski gear. Great breakfast spread and beautiful views of the mountains in the distance from our room. There's parking too if you have hired a car. We will definitely stay at Hillside when we ski in Karakol again!

KazakhstanGuys are building new hotel, closer to mountains. Considering the roads and traffic jam on eco control, that will be a big advantage. It takes 20 min to get to the ski resort if you drive. Nothing besides that
We stayed as several families and our kids liked the hotel as much as we did. Elya (the host) was very kind and assisting. They serve only breakfast, but this room can be also used for dinners if you cook by your self or order food from restaurants. We took some wine with us and had good time in the hotel, just like home.

ItalyThe best place to stay in Karakol. We stayed there for 5 nights and we discovered from there all the region hiking every day in different valley (Ak-Suu, Jeti Oguz, Jyrgalan, Altyn Arash). Ahmet, the owner, is the kindest, most welcoming and helpful person we could find. He advised us on wonderful walks, he also helped us with taxis, market and translations. Hillside is an oasis of tranquillity, the rooms as clean as the whole building. The common area the ideal place to relax after a long hiking. The breakfasts were excellent. Super fast wifi. To be recommended to anyone who wants to stay in Karakol. We love it!!!

United StatesIt would have been nice to have a fan in the room since there is no air conditioning and the window only opens so wide. we had to open the bathroom window to create a cross breeze but there is no screen on that window so it let bugs in.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were good. There was a very laid back, family type atmosphere. The entire place is beautifully remodeled. Breakfast was very nice and even delicious French press coffee with beans from Sierra Coffee.
