Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesYunoshimakan is a magical place. The old and well-preserved building feels like a space outside of time. A labyrinth of beautiful corridors, stairs, and elevators connects the entire complex of guest rooms, lounges, bars, lobbies, onsen, and more. I felt like a ghost wandering the halls in the provided yukata, soaking in the steaming outdoor onsen, and exploring the strange corners of the building. Gero is a small and serene village tucked into the mountains. Immediately behind Yunoshimakan is a trailhead to a short (but steep) hiking loop up to the top of the nearest mountain peak. There is no view of Gero from there, but you can find a beautiful overlook of the towns on the river to the north. The rest of Gero is easily walked in a day as well, and you can find many gorgeous parks and landscape features, historical buildings and shops, and an abundance of delicious sweets and food. The staff and service at Yunoshimakan was excellent. Though most of the employees spoke limited English, they all were very accommodating and found ways to communicate well. The meals I had in the tatami room were wonderful, but I will admit that my naive western palate struggled with a few of the dishes. I'm glad to have tried all the new things, even if I didn't finish all of them.

CanadaWe wished there was some kind of laundry service. Wither self serve or full service.
A gorgeous property that exudes old world japanese traditions and charm while keeping up with modern necessities. The staff were friendly and seemed really proud of the property. The moonlight club was a delight. The onsen were the best we’ve been to in Japan. The views were incredible. The property shows its age a bit, but to us it added to the charm of the experience.

United KingdomThe hotel looks a little tired in places, and dinner in the restaurant for those that did not have a package which included dinner, did not start until 8pm. It was be good if there were a cold pool in the Onsen.
Lovely hotel overlooking Gero Onsen. We had only booked bed and breakfast, and our rooms were well appointed and spacious, with views overlooking Gero. The Japanese breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The public Onsen had inside and outside pools which were spacious and relaxing, and very quiet when we visited. There is also a spacious bar, where you can use the Karaoke. The service throughout our stay was excellent.

United StatesWe had a relaxing stay at Yunoshimakan. It felt like an escape into the mountains, being perfectly situated just on the edge of town, but seemingly in its own world. Exploring this large traditional ryokan is an activity in itself. The outdoor onsen facilities were excellent. We could enjoy them even when it rained heavily, as they provided straw hats to serve as an umbrella of sorts. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast courses were thoroughly enjoyable. The dining hall provided nice views into the forest. The shuttle service to and from the train station was well appreciated. Will return again.

United StatesNot the fault of the hotel, but there was a very loud and annoying karaoke that echoed clearly up to the room from town at 10pm each night. It would have been nice to have been able to eat breakfast in the fresh air, or have a to-go option.
The building was beautiful, the surrounding forest and garden were beautiful, the views were stunning, and it was such a luxury to have our own onsen and access to the hotel baths as well. We were lucky to have good weather, and it was so comfortable to keep the large window open and have a fresh breeze through a screen whenever we liked. All the staff we met were friendly, welcoming, and eager to explain things even when we didn’t speak the same language. The vegetarian breakfast was delicious and filling, and the two mornings we were there they offered some variety.

SingaporeIf you don't like a too old building and lacking of the facility. this is not the place for you. and also dining may not be up to expectations with the high price.
Depends on what you like about Onsen Hotel. It has a history with old-time vibe. The room is cozy. and the newer building also has an indoor bath. but old main building room has no indoor bath.

CanadaSTUNNING. Right out of Spirited away, the onsens were beautiful we did the private onsens in the room as well as reserved one of the private ones downstairs. They were really wonderful. My husband did both of the public ones and said they were fully equipped and stunning. I did not see these as I do have tattoos. They did as if I could cover them so I think if you brought something to cover up (not bathing suits) you would be fine. They had a very convenient bus pick us up from the station and take us back. Dinner was huge and quite a stunning adventure as was breakfast?

SpainThe beautiful location in the woods (yet close to the city, 4~ mins). The spectacular labyrinth-like structure of the whole hotel that makes you want to explore it entirely (reminded us of The Shining hotel). They even have a gamified "quest" of collecting stamps in different parts of the building to make you visit memorable spots. The surprising victorian furniture of the Karaoke room and its very friendly employees, had a great night singing and drinking in there. The size of the room.

Saudi ArabiaI guess the floor futon wasnt that comfortable to my back that's used to beds. But it was an experience.
Absolutely Stunning! From the building which is an old bath house from the 1930s! Which is also HUGE! Litterally i was lost a few times in it. And the natural landscape surrounding it. My room had a private bath which had a beautiful view as well it felt from a painting the dinner was top notch one of the best Ive ever had In japan beware tho it was a 14 course meal 🤣 I got full mid way. You need to starve yourself for days to be able to finish it. Lastly the Breakfast was average. I also liked that they have a shuttle from the station 👍

CroatiaWe liked everything. The room bath, the public baths, the foot bath, the staff, the garden, everything was perfect!! The room was very spacious, and the view… If you don’t book the dinner don’t worry, you will not be hungry as there is a small restaurant in the hotel with a few dishes (snacks) on the menu and it’s not as pricy as that fancy Japanese dinner (but it’s probably not as big either :D)

This place is just so special. It was built in the 1930s and just has such a beautiful charm. From the moment you walk in you feel like you have stepped back in time. The building is older and rambling but it oozes charm and the staff are delightful. The food is amazing and each meal is such an adventure. All the staff were amazing but a special thank you to Meyu who was so wonderful and kind.

United KingdomI did get a bit lost in regards to the outdoors onsen, the sign posting was not clear and I couldnt take the map with me inside the onsen. While it was a steep walk there and back from the town, the view was gorgeous.
The room was big and clean. The friendliness of staff made me feel very welcome. I was able to get a massage and even though the person did not speak English, the print out sheet was easy to understand and we were able to communicate enough. The onsen was phenomenal.
