Traditional ryokan hotel with onsens. Very close to station, easy walk & opposite large Buddhist temple complex. The opportunity to enjoy a traditional dinner was not to be missed in a private dining room, served by the cook who had taken 2 hours to prepare it. The use of translate app gave us the information we needed.

Everything was perfect

The property was squeaky clean and comfortable. We weren’t sure what to expect of the kaiseki dinner but we had an amazing time! More than a meal it was an experience. The room was nice and spacious. We are so thankful for the staff who were very attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay the best ever. It was worth every penny. If we ever return to Kyoto we would stay here without a doubt. Thank you so much!

The traditional Kyoto style breakfast is tasty but it has too much stuff to eat for people who aren't used to eating a lot as breakfast.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Onsen was very clean and comfortable to use. There are washing machines you can use for cheap and also a dryer. The hotel is close to the Kyoto train station (5min walk) and right next to a big temple.

Everyone was extremely hospitable and kind. The room was spacious and clean. The kiseki dinner and breakfast were deliciously and beautifully prepared. The presentation was like a work of art. The location was perfect for us as it was close to the train station by a few minutes walk. I would highly recommend Yamadaya Ryokan.

I had a hard time getting used to the traditional futon. It was not something I was used to I was not used either with the temperature of the Onsen. It was very hot, so I was not able to stay very long.

The staff is so nice! They try their very best to accommodate you any way you can and their service is top notch. I specially liked how the owner of the place was there for both the dinner and the breakfast! It was something surprising and very humbling. It is also a tattoo friendly place so you can use the hot baths even if you have a tattoo. Also LGTBQ friendly since my partner are a gay couple. Overall this is a great place to stay for a relaxing time.

The service was excellent. The staff was so so friendly and accomodating. They went above and beyond for me and my family. The location was a 8-10 minute walk from Kyoto station. The room was perfect and the public bath was incredible. I could not be happier with our time spent here!

Because you sleep on the floor, you may hear the footsteps of other patrons.

The staff were very helpful and kind. They even held our bags after we checked out so we would see more of the area before leaving. They fully explained all the facilities, including the bathhouses and room controls. The rooms were all very clean and well attended to. The room was spacious and comfortable and offered a great view of the temple across the street. The breakfast was delicious and very filling. Would highly recommend!

The only thing we can complain is the dryer. We use the washing and drying facilities, we dried the clothes for one hour and it was still wet. The facilities closed at midnight together with the onsen area and unfortunately we had to leave the hotel the next day with some wet clothes.

The location is perfect, it is just a few minutes away from Kyoto Station. The breakfast was delicious, also very traditional and healthy. The room was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed our time in the onsen, they have one small and one big onsen, which the ryokan admin alternates, so one day the big onsen is for men and the next day for women. The staff if extremely nice and helpful, they received us with tea and a delicious matcha pastry, they gave us umbrellas when it was raining and a heat patch to keep us warm. I definitely recommend it!

Everything was perfect

Everything about the ryokan was perfect. Upon arrival, we were given a tour so that we knew what was available and how everything, like the onsen, worked. They have a washer and dryer to use. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The beds were very comfortable. The onsen were so fun to use! We also ordered the dinner. The presentation was nice and food was very good. Can’t say enough about our stay. Will be back.

Lovely staff, so kind, welcoming and accommodating. Even though they mostly spoke Japanese, it was easy to communicate with the translator. Location was excellent and super central to Kyoto Station and other transit lines. Kaiseki meal was tremendous. Onsen was also wonderful, especially after long days of walking and touring in the cold. Truly a delightful experience.

We had an incredible experience staying here! All of the staff were incredibly polite, and eager to help us out when needed. Upon check-in, they personally walked us through all of the hotel's ammenities from the tablet in our room to the laundry in the lobby. The futons were very soft, almost no difference to sleeping on a mattress. There were also complementary robes and toiliteries available. The public bath was pretty big, overlooked a small but beautiful garden, and had all of the ammenities one could need. This location is less than a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station, located right accross from a huge temple, and also located close to restaurants and convenience stores.

Water in onsen was much hotter than in other onsens we tried in Japan, it was to hot to relax in it.

The location was amazing and the staff was extremely helpful and polite. Overall it was the best accommodation we had while travelling through Japan.
