Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesExcellent location near Shibuya. Humble little spot that was very clean! Small, but it's Japan and a large city, most large cities do not have much space. No elevator, but not a problem for us as we were only on the second floor. Charming little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

ChileSome of the inventory and furnishings are a little outdated and smelly due to old age. However, I understand the hotel is currently being renovated so it will likely be taken care of in the near future.
Amazing location, close to Shibuya, yet still very quiet and calm. Beautiful building with traditional style and features. There is a private Onsen in the hotel for guest use. Nice plants inside and outside.

FranceNothing … There are just renewing a part of the hotel but we didn’t get annoyed at all
The location is good, right next to the 7 elven and the bus stop who drop you off in 2 mins to shibuya crossing of 10 mins by foot. It’s a traditional style hotel. Nice staff. 🤙🏼

JapanI don’t like shared showers, but this one was really clean. The group/shared bath downstairs was what I preferred, but I also just love to soak in a good onsen
The hotel was gorgeous, the garden leading in was breath taking. It was under construction but that didn’t really bother us since we were leaving early in the morning and coming back after they were done.

AustraliaIt was a little dated and worn in my room but not a deal breaker.
Good location ie near a bus, 11 min walk to subway , 15 min walk to shibuya station and close to trendy neighbourhoods like Daikanyama. Lovely and helpful staff. Large room.

PeruThe hotel isn't situated in the most ideal location. Not a lot of popular tourist destinations, popular restaurants or bars within close walking distance, so you will probably need to take a bus to your destination. The hotel is in close proximity to a busy highway (luckily you cannot hear the traffic from the hotel), but there is no ground level crosswalk to cross to get to the hotel from probably the most popular bus route and you will have to go up a walkway overpass to get to the other side of the highway. Lastly, the walls are SUPER thin. You can hear everything. I have stayed in other ryokans before, and this one is by far the thinnest walls. I was roomed right near the checkin desk and could hear every word the clerks and other guests were saying. Luckily, everyone was quiet at night. So this isn't really the place for anyone who thinks they will be making moderate to a lot of noise.
Hotel Fukudaya is a ryokan in a popular district of Tokyo that is very affordable. If you are looking for that, there are not a whole lot of ryokan options, so this place stands out in those regards.

United StatesThe second floor had a lot of construction, so a discounted price would have been a nice gesture. The heat did not work in my room and it was bitterly cold - the same temp as outside.
Great experience. So beautiful, peaceful, and traditional with an incredible public bath. Staff spoke good English too.

United StatesCould not book same room both days. I think BOOKING.com is partly responsible for not accomodating and understanding how a hotel works, and how room over-differntiation in combination with cancellations can result in unecesscary inconvenicnes for hotel staff and tennants.
Clean, well run. Nice staff too.

FinlandNothing. For info, at the moment (Feb. 2024) the hotel is undergoing some renovation, so there might be some noise during daytime (10-17).
Futon was very comfortable, room was tidy and well cleaned and staff was super nice. The hotel is 10-15 minutes walk from the heart of Shibuja.

AustraliaThe room was extremely small (or maybe we had huge suitcases!), but it was hard to fully open the suitcases. However, we understand that is pretty standard for most hotels. Just beware when booking this hotel if you are one to pack a lot like me.
We really enjoyed the traditional style of the room, we slept in futons and the room was lined with tatami, which was lovely. There was a working air conditioner, a small TV, and slippers. Quite limited ammenities but workable. We had an ensuite (toilet), but had to share the shower with a few rooms, which was fine as the shower was right next door. There were other shared toilets throughout the hotel. About a 15 minute walk from Shibuya Station. Hot water and water refill were available downstairs.

JapanNo outlet near futon and no lamp near futon bed. I did ask for extension cord to plug in my phone. it was provided. My old American body found it difficult to get up and down from the floor futon. The ultra slippery Japan house slippers make it ultra dangerous to climb and descend stairs due to Americans do not know how to not slide out of these slippers.
A more traditional stay and not the hustle of a massive hotel. Room was nice Japanese style. TV is tiny but I did not use. Hot bath was just perfect.

IndiaThe cleanliness and staff.
The cleanliness and staff behaviour is probably the best I’ve ever experienced. This room taught us that in Japan the expectations on room size needs to be set right. Also no mirrors on closet in the room was difficult to get used to.
