The thin walls, you could hear the bathroom noises. Also the bathroom shower was leaking.

Lovely authentic place, amazing food, all the amenities.

The wilderness center offers cozy rooms with original furniture, a great spa in the middle of the wild, very good food prepared by an excellent chef and carrying as well as warming staff. We totally recommend this place and would always come back.

My stay was magical. The sauna and spa were outstanding. The rooms, reminiscent of a Polish 'skansen,' had a unique charm. What truly set this place apart, though, was the incredible friendliness and hospitality of the hosts. I highly recommend it.

The reception was extremely warm and I felt very welcome. I was impressed with the kindness of the staff. In the evening I was also offered dinner, where I was able to interact with other travelers. And the food was great. The facilities are very good too, and the hot pool was invigorating!

Unfortunately at the time I visited the hot pool was not hot and the main lights in the building did not work. They had some electrical malfunctions so these will likely be resolved soon. It just added authenticity to the period style of the accommodations :). The outlets did work so there were a few lamps to use as well as being able to charge devices.

This was a really fun stop on my tour around Iceland. The drive to the location is great. I slept above the museum (or in the museum it felt like) in shared space which resembled a Viking longhouse with beds separated by half walls. I was expecting this but it seemed some of the other guests were put off and did not realize this was what they signed up for. Everything was clean and wonderfully decorated 'like a museum' The sauna building was fantastic. Bathrooms were also nicely designed in a sort of rustic aesthetic but remained very modern and functional. I loved the place. They also do horseback riding which I signed up for the next morning. I did not purchase the dinner but did sign up for the breakfast which was a buffet spread and was delicious and a chance to mingle with other guests. Sheep roamed the property and the odd sheepdog came to visit.

Great location with a taste of traditional way of living in Iceland

The rooms were tiny. The property didn't have any kitchen facilities. If you arrive very late, you will not have a kettle to heat water for noodles. We stayed in upstairs rooms and the stairs up were very narrow, so it was a little difficult to take our heavy suitcases up.

The hotel will give you a taste of traditional living in Iceland. We stayed in the main building where they served breakfast. The interior was decorated as though you were living in the 1940s. The hosts were very cordial and friendly. They gave us a history of the place, which was very helpful in understanding the theme. The breakfast was incredible. We thought that we would not buy but after looking at the setup, we changed our mind and loved it. The location and views were mesmerizing. It is a detour to go there, but well worth it. The drive to go there is paved except for the last few minutes. I don't think you need a 4x4 to go there.

This place is beautiful, unique and situated in such a gorgeous part of Iceland. It was such a cool experience to stay here and I loved the hot spring and sauna facilities. The dinner and breakfast (additional charges) were so so so delicious and the vegetarian option was amazing. The cinnamon mini pancakes were SO GOOD! I’m still thinking about them!!! The staff are so kind and lovely and super helpful. My friend and I only stayed for one night but it was one of my favourite places I’ve ever stayed. Could not recommend more highly!

Great people, beautiful setting, fascinating museum. Go!

The bathroom door in the old house was a problem. One bathroom, eight people. The door was loud. The lock didn’t work well. Every time someone went into the bathroom, the door was LOUD then the lock was LOUD. It was difficult to sleep if anyone else was using the bathroom. There’s also the issue that different nationalities of people have different bathroom conventions - for example, Germans leave the door closed when the bathroom is empty. USA people leave it open. That led to not knowing if the room was in use or not. I mentioned it to the manager and I trust she’ll do something about it!Also, sadly, the plumbing in the hot tub/sauna was out of whack and the hot tub was not warm enough so it was less than ideal. I’ve said so much negative but really I had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful place with beautiful people and I would go there again. The museum was excellent and interesting and so well done. The staff were so kind and friendly. It was a terrific experience.

The setting, the museum on site, the people who work there, meeting the other travelers, the family-style dinners where we got to talk to others, the idea of the sauna and hot tub, the concept.

Of course, this is absolutely not the fault of the guest house but I'd like to post it as the guys causing this probably would read it as well?! It was absolutely annoying that other guests started to slam doors and talk in an unnecessaryly loud tone with each other in the middle of the night as they were obviously preparing for their day. Rude and disrespectful to all the others...

Nested within the pure icelandic nature this is a real gem for all of you out there who plan to make some hikes or rides and probably stay more than one night. But even that single night was just about right as there's everything there/offered you need (and more). We did not have dinner with the group as we arrived late but it smelled very good and the guys seemed to enjoy it. The room was not that big but it served well for our purpose. The house is really nicely refurbished and kept tidy and running. The common areas (bathroom, etc.) are well treated and proper. In case you pick this one, also go for the breakfast!

The property was cute. Etti, probably spelling that wrong I am sorry, was so friendly and helpful and it was such a pleasure getting to talk with him. The food was amazing as well for dinner.

Small heated pool and other advertised activities, e.g. horse riding, were not available. Staff was cleaning the pool and season for activities had not yet started, so just bad timing for us. Suggest website should indicate season dates. Very small room. Barely held two small twin beds.

Wonderful staff. Good food. Beautiful valley for hiking. We stayed in the charming old farmhouse. Pool house with sauna and showers was nice.

Rooms were small (this concerns the room for 2 persons) and also a bit noisy so be sure to bring earplugs.
