Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Germanyloud. On the weekends you can hear some noise from the people coming up and down from the bar because the walls are thin. But it didn’t bother me.
Nice staff, Beds are comfortable and everything was clean.

United KingdomIt did get loud at night from the bars and restaurants, but this is not the fault of the hostel and is to be expected given the central location. Bring earplugs and this won't be an issue.
The location was amazing for getting around the city centre, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the bar upstairs was a nice atmosphere, and they let me leave my luggage after checking out which was great as I didn't have to wheel it around the city and to conference events all day. For the price, this is a great hostel option in the city.

CanadaSafe storage options for valuables.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I was in an 8 bunk all female dorm and it felt super safe. There are locked storage bins under the bottom bunk (although the lock mechanism broke on mine) - and you can rent padlocks from the hostel for 900ISK (as of May 2024). There's also communal bag storage you can access by going to the loft bar/check in if you arrive before check in and want to get out exploring. The communal kitchen is great, and there was loads of free food left behind which is handy if you arrive outside of local supermarket opening times. Ditto free toiletries in the shared/accessible bathroom. You're on one of the main streets of Reykjavik so be aware there is some noise from people enjoying themselves outside, I'm used to being in a loud area but if you're a light sleeper it's something to consider. Location is EXCELLENT! It was my first hostel experience and i was more than pleasantly surprised. I'd definitely stay here again!

FinlandThe room description said 6 beds, but there were 7.
My first time sleeping in a dorm - but all went well! As my visit was during the week, there was no partying going on and so I was able to sleep well both nights. I got what I wanted - a budget friendly accommodation for a couple of nights. Felt safe as a female traveler.

United StatesThere was no free parking. You had to park at a garage(not free) about a 10-minute walk from the hostel. The bathrooms were small.
The location is in the heart of Reykjavik! During the day, you can walk to the top attractions and be near the party at night. The staff were helpful and friendly. There is a bar/ eatery in the hostel.

United StatesAs I mentioned: crowded and often dirty kitchen, carpet, and the bathroom in the bedroom has the shower, sink and toilet, so when one person was in it for an hour you had to hope you could use the toilet in the hallway. As I always say, curtains on the beds would be nice to allow for some privacy.
I’ll start with the location is perfect and it made traversing the city easy and enjoyable. What’s On is just down the street and you can find out about everything to do in Iceland there. It is close to the Rainbow street and all the shopping and grocery stores. It’s a convenient location. It’s well used and in need of some upgrading, but it’s well planned and was probably really nice when new. It’s just worn because it’s always packed and accommodate big groups who take over the kitchen facilities and often leave it really messed up with garbage and dirty dishes. It is a well stocked kitchen, but rather small when big groups swarm the kitchen. The lounge is a bar, library, stage for musicians, and you can order food from the restaurant below. The room was large and always full, the bathroom was adequate, and there was a window for fresh air and light, but no view. The floor was a bit tawdry and carpet is never great. The staff were almost always nice, but busy and didn’t have time. Iceland is very expensive and this hostel allowed me to stay a week, even though it was almost 60 usd a night.

NetherlandsOutside our room, in the hallway, we saw an old man sleeping on the floor (probably homeless). Was not unsafe but probably wasn’t expecting that. One of the reasons is because you just enter with a code and there is no people checking who enters the hotel.
The hotel was very centric, close to the church and bus stops. Also many restaurants close by. It is a good option for a short stay in Reykjavik

United KingdomIt’s basic accommodation and a good price so nothing not to like.
I stayed for a Saturday night with my 5 year old daughter in one of the bunk bed rooms. Location is great. There are no keys so all you actually need is a code to get in but we did head up to the bar to check in (not necessary) so at least got to see it. The room has everything we needed. We sleep in a replica bed at home and it’s a fun arrangement for kids. It was also not at all noisy which I was expecting. You are supposed to strip your bed before leaving but we didn’t as we were in a huge rush. Impressive recycling. It was functional for us and everything worked a treat. Location is excellent. Thank you
