Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe didn’t see the Northern Lights which was why we chose Husafell initially, but obviously that’s nowhere near a given and we are so glad we found Husafell anyway as we had a lovely stay and booked on to some tours that ended up being the highlights of our trip - the glacier tour, the lava cave and the canyon baths were all incredible experiences!
Beautiful location with breathtaking views every time you look out of the window. Felt very tranquil and relaxing as it’s so isolated. Lovely food in the restaurant and a modern, spacious room. Very friendly & helpful staff on reception and in the restaurant. Great tours to be booked through the hotel and lovely to have the geothermal pools on site. The canyon baths were a particular highlight, a wonderful experience & not to be missed!

United StatesHotel was located in a stunning location, we drove to nearby lava cave and it was amazing. We eat at the restaurant on site and it was one of the best meals we had during our trip! Will definitely come back to stay and do the ice caves nearby.

IcelandStaff was very helpful, nice and easy to communicate with. The service in the swimming pool was excellent, you can order drinks and they service them to the pool for you. The surroundings are beautiful and you have a view to the mountains from all areas of the hotel. I have been going to Húsafell for over 40 years but htis was my first stay at the hotel and I will be back

United StatesBecause the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, the local family has a monopoly on almost all services and activities in the town. While dinner was very tasty, it was even more expensive. They were also the only restaurant/food option in a 30-40 minute drive. While the hotel and food were very nice, I wouldn’t categorize them as “luxurious” equivalent to the prices you’re paying. Just understand you’re paying for the logistics of running a hotel away from the supply chain.
This property is sat squarely in the wilderness of Iceland; excellent for hiking, chasing northern lights, and seeking peacefulness. Limited other tourists who mostly kept to themselves. Staff were incredibly kind, happy, and helpful. Dinner was tasty with a creative chef. Breakfast included with room, one of the best breakfasts I’ve had traveling with fresh fruits and veggies. We used the wake-up call service to catch the Northern Lights around midnight, a pleasant surprise given the cloudy rain day and pessimistic Aurora forecast.

United KingdomHotel pool and hot springs aren't included in the price of the stay, a small but annoying thing Hotel restaurant's dinner menu is very small, after a few nights you've had everything and there's nowhere else close by to try Would be great to have a smart TV in the room for YouTube etc, only had local channels There was no power or water for several hours one morning, and very little communication on what had happened or when it might be fixed. Could not have a hot breakfast or coffee that morning and there was no follow up or apology later
Beautiful location, we were able to see the Northern lights several nights in a row Able to travel to several nearby sites or arrange pickup from the hotel for activities Nice rooms and friendly staff Breakfast was good with lots of variety

United StatesThe facilities are clean and well designed for comfort and simplicity. The room was on the smaller side but again comfortable and the bathrooms/showers were very nice. The surrounding property is beautiful, which you get an excellent view of from the rooms as well as the fantastic hotel restaurant. The food was really elevated and clearly locally sourced. The breakfast was great as well. We also did the tour of the canyon baths which was incredible and I would highly recommend. While anyone might enjoy a stay here, I would particularly recommend it to couples looking for a romantic experience just a couple of hours outside of Reykjavik.

United KingdomThe only thing that wasn't so great was on our last night we had very noisy neighbours, but we didn't notice it any other night, so probably just the loud Americans ha! Also a little expensive to eat and go on tours, but it's worth it for a good holiday!
We loved our stay here! As a coeliac vegetarian it is often hard to eat abroad, but the staff here catered to me exceptionally. I had a different meal all three nights and was made toast for breakfast. If you don't have my allergies, the breakfast buffet is definitely worth it. Lovely location, we had a car so could get out and about, but spent most evenings at the hotel as it's so nice. All staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms very clean!

IrelandThe breakfast menu the same every day and restaurant menu too poor in choices but what it is in menu is very good, very tasty and nice find dining, maybe because it was soo good I wanted to try more quality dinners/lunch from them. Over all for 4/5 days is a great place. The pool also is great, warm and nice view from there.

United StatesThe beds were a bit hard. Not a dislike - but the location is remote - a good 45 minute drive from the nearest town of size. It is what we were looking for, but if it isn't what you want, it can feel isolating, particularly in winter.
The staff were exceptional - doing everything they could to make sure we were comfortable - including holding breakfast open a few more minutes when jet lag meant we overslept. Oliver in the restaurant made sure we had a delightful experience including making special meals for my husband's birthday. Clara at the front desk was extremely helpful in getting us set up for our various excursions and hikes. One of the most relaxing trips and about the most well-cared for I've been in a hotel.

NetherlandsA notable downside was the exclusion of the geothermal pools from our stay, without any discount for hotel guests. We ended up paying and enjoying the pool but it not being included (or at least some type of discount) very much felt like a missed opportunity to enhance the overall value of our stay.
Hotel Húsafell exceeded our expectations. The serene and secluded location created a peaceful retreat. The well-crafted breakfast and the exceptional fine dining experience at the on-site restaurant added a great touch to our stay. We also got the chance to experience the Northern lights even though it was cloudy so appreciated the wake up call. The overall ambiance and service make this hotel a standout choice for Iceland.

United KingdomFor the price point, the hotel could offer more amenities, like a fitness centre, sauna and hot tub. We also got a room close to the main entrance and could hear noises during the night, particularly luggage and trolleys being rolled on the aisle in front of our room (in addition to loud guests)
Location and general condition of the hotel. The breakfast was also very nice!
