I found this place on booking.com and arrived 20 minutes after booking! Dimitri the manager met and accompanied me in a lovely room with view of the mountains. I enjoyed it here.but wish i had longer to stay.

The usual small town
Smolyan is okay. There are interesting things to see, unfortunately there was trash that distracted from a lot of the delightful sights. There was always the occasional plastic bottle or other piece of trash on the sides of the hiking roads. However, you can find some very beautiful landscapes in the mountain, which are worth it.

- Actually it's not a resort ( a bunch of big hotels scattered in the woods), - Maybe in winter is OK, but in summer is not much to do. In the area I recommend Smolyan Waterfalls Canion and Uhlovitsa Cave, overrated: Devil Throuth, Yagodina cave.

Smolyan can serve as a very good base for visiting the region. Pamporovo is 10 minutes by car, Waterfalls canyon starts practically from Smolyan. Several caves and many historical places are in up to 1 hour driving distance.

Great nature and beautiful views. The town of Smolyan is really worth visiting. It is a pitty that Pamporovo is so far away from Sofia and the curvy road is relly tirying to drive.
