Beautiful falls, chilly water, well-maintained, safe parking and restaurant area with lockers. There are a LOT of stairs to get down there, so maybe some people will opt to look at it from afar rather than hike down for a closer look and swim.

I went there early morning, meaning I was one of the first one. You have to be physically fit to climb the stairs, it is very humid and with in the rain season wear sturdy shoes.
The butterfly and orchid garden was very disappointing, 2 butterflies and no orchid. That was not my main point to visit.
The coffee shop and other shop were still closed when I came back up.

Go early!
Go early! We went one lunch time and the queue was huge, decided to go back another day for when it opened at 7am and we were one of the only ones there. It was amazing swimming round by ourselves and being able to get pictures without the crowds. I don't imagine it is quite so magical with hundreds of people there.

It is an amazing place to visit, and get ready for spending there a couple of hours if you go. You can go in the waterfall, and you even have a little river part where you can spend longer time, where the water is a bit warmer. Great for families with kids as well, if they like climbing stairs. :) You can get to the waterfall through hundreds of stairs when going down and coming back as well. Great exercise though! :)

It was okay but not great.
It was okay but not great. It was very busy even early in the morning. We didn’t relish group bathing so skipped that. We are reasonably fit and we found the 500 step climb an effort. The best parts was the noisy toucan and the brief, funny conversations with fellow climbers. The orchid walk has great potential but was really nothing when we were there. Forget the butterfly garden as it appeared abandoned. Be prepared for the entry staff to totally ignore you. Glad we did it but not our favourite activity by a long shot. Actually I think we enjoyed the wood gallery on the road out, more.

Beautiful waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery!
Beautiful waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery! I found the entry fee to be a fair price for the facilities provided at this attraction. We visited in the last week of December and the falls was in full flow due to the rains from recent rains. We were prohibited from swimming directly under the falls due to the strong currents but were allowed to swim 100 feet downstream. In the dry season, you are allowed to swim directly under the falls. Make sure to bring lots of bug repellent, the area has a lot of bugs and mosquitoes. You have climb down 560 steps to reach the falls. Folks who are not fit or have poor knees my find this troubling and may have to take frequent breaks. While entering the water, watch out for slipper rocks and also bugs on the rocks. We found a couple of large (3 to 4 inches large) spiders. We were not sure whether they were poisonous but made sure to look carefully before stepping on any rocks near the water.

This hotel was a great find. A short drive to the center of La Fortuna. It is on the road to get the La Fortuna Waterfall. We got to stay in some of the newly constructed cabins. Comfortable beds and ac. Great little front porches to sit on. Great was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. And they have a parking lot. Peaceful escape from the very touristy La Fortuna area.
The Bamboo restaurant staff and food was absolutely amazing. We were so happy we decided to just stay and eat there the first night. Breakfast and bar drinks really good too and prices lower than out in town actually. Will very much stay here again. Pool was great and like a thermal pool- hiked La Fortuna waterfall early before crowds and then decided to just stay on the grounds at hotel and swim and enjoy a whole area to ourselves with the bartender who brought our drinks to the pool.
The staff were amazing. The breakfast included was delicious. The property was in a beautiful location. It was only walkable to La Fortuna Waterfall. Otherwise you need a car to get to town or any other attraction.
Great location and hot spring pools at the hotel, beautiful view of Arenal volcano, friendly staff, free yoga class, good on site restaurants. Convenient to Mistico Hanging Bridges and the La Fortuna Waterfall.
La Fortuna was a destination for us, both to experience the La Fortuna Waterfall and for a day trip and dinner at Tabacon hot springs. Surprisingly, the highlight turned out to be of the four-legged kind. That's another story for another day. The entire stay was brilliant, primarily due to the attention, care and professionalism exhibited by Ronaldo. He was the gem of our entire trip.
Tifakara is such a unique place to stay. The rooms are tucked away along winding paths in the jungle. The outdoor shower was my favorite part of the stay along with the balcony overlooking the jungle (I saw a Toucan). Oh, the frog tour with Josue seriously is worth it!! We hunted for frogs in the rain with flashlights and had a blast! A big bonus was having coffee always available. The area where the hotel is located is really cool–tucked away right near La Fortuna waterfall and close to some cute places.
The beds were comfortable and bathroom was basic but clean. The property is beautiful with a trail you can walk on down to the river and the staff is amazingly helpful and kind. The breakfast was delicious! We had dinner at the restaurant next door one evening and loved the food and vibe there as well. The hotel is a short drive to La Fortuna waterfall, Bogarin trail, Mistico Hanging bridge park, Arenal volcano and the hot springs.
We loved our stay. From the moment we got there, the staff made us feel so welcomed! We spent 4 days there and didn't leave the resort except for one horseback riding tour to La Fortuna waterfall. The hot springs were one of the coolest places we've ever been to, the drinks were the best we've ever had, and the hot breakfast was free and was such a great way to start our day!
The location of Tio Felix was very convenient for an early start at La Fortuna waterfall, which can get very crowded. We appreciated having a traditional Costa Rican breakfast before going to the waterfall.
We loved sitting on the porch in the evening listening to the sounds of the bugs and watching the fireflies.
