Nestled between two small rice fields and surrounded by forest, Tepi Sawah Lodge & Retreat can truly be called a “hidden gem”. If you’re looking for a close-to-nature getaway, “Tepi Sawah” is a good choice. The rooms are rather unique. Are they rooms, bungalows, cabins or chalets? It’s not easy to say, but they all have a special character and rustic charm. Let’s emphasize the word “rustic”. The accommodations are definitely not modern and luxurious – the simple and rustic bungalows are a step back to nature and simplicity. We have a kitchen and small dining area for our guests. We prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which can be enjoyed in the dining area, or served at your bungalow. You may want to join one of our cooking sessions as well. Our property is ideal for meditation and yoga retreats, and we are happy to reserve the entire property for such events. A last thought: while sitting on your terrace in the evening, keep in mind that you are in the middle of a forest and rice fields. Enjoy the close sounds of the creatures of the night, and the possibility of a field mouse visit as well. These are part of the charm.

Tepi Sawah Lodge & Retreat is definitely what can be called a “family business”. We, Adi and Dewi, are a Balinese couple with three children: Santi, Candra and Komang, ages 20 to 10. We are from a village – Wongaya Gede – not far from “Tepi Sawah”. It’s a typical traditional Balinese village. We were raised in our family compounds, learning the customs and traditions of our culture. As young adults, we moved to South Bali for jobs in tourism and marketing. Not long ago, we decided to give up our jobs as employees, and start developing our property in central Bali – with the dream of running our own business as a family. Tepi Sawah Lodge & Retreat is the result. We are very grateful for our property, and we and our team enjoy the work we do. Hosting guests allows us to get to know people from all over the world – a wonderful opportunity. We can also share our culture and interests with our guests, for example, cooking local meals, creating macramé arts and crafts, or sharing the “secrets” of planting, cultivating and harvesting red rice. Tepi Sawah Lodge and Retreat is surrounded by rice fields and forest. These serene surroundings are what most guests truly appreciate and enjoy. However, nearby, you can also enjoy some very interesting places and exciting activities. With a 20-min. drive, you can be in the middle of Jatiluwih, a stunning rice terrace area. Jatiluwih is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The views are breathtaking and there are several walking trails, between 1.5 and 5.5 km. The Yeh Hoo Waterfall is right beside Jatiluwih. After a 5-min. walk through rice fields, you can already wade in the pool below the waterfall – or take a little swim if you’d like. Temple Batukaru is a significant Hindu temple in Bali, located on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, Bali's second-highest mountain. It is within walking distance of “Tepi Sawah” (2.5 km). Another short walk from “Tepi Sawah” will put you in the middle of the Subak Uma Piak rice fields, a “going viral” spot with awesome views. And if you’d like to do more than just “a walk”, there are many trekking trails we can guide you along. The Belulang Hot Springs are also a tourist destination not far from “Tepi Sawah”; only a 20-minute drive – and abeautiful drive
