Located in San José and with La Sabana Metropolitan Park reachable within 5.3 km, Chillout Hostel Barrio Escalante provides concierge services, allergy-free rooms, a garden, free WiFi throughout the... A well run hostel by a “hands on” owner who has put a lot of care in creating and managing the place. Both the owner and his staff were all very friendly and interested in chatting with their guests. The owner actually works the day shift (at least the days I was there) so he was very present to ensure a good stay. There was also staff there 24 hours a day. Chillout Hostel had two common areas. One area was in front of the building (but fenced in and behind the secured entrance gate) and was a nice place to enjoy breakfast or coffee. The second area was in the back of the building (and also enclosed). There were also seven guest rooms, a combination of dorms and private rooms. The social scene was nice, but certainly not a “party hostel.” The common areas (particularly the back common area) and kitchen were closed off at 22:00 to ensure a quiet night. They reopened at 7:00 the next morning. I found the neighborhood to be safe, certainly safer than other parts of San Jose. There were restaurants and grocery stores with a few blocks of the hostel. The hostel was a fifteen to twenty minute walk to the city center.

This is the second time I stayed here and it will remain my go-to hostel in San José. The quality you get for this price is unmatched. The breakfast is good and fresh every day and it is very clean. They've added a co-working space since my last stay. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Couldn't recommend it more.

Ester`s Place in Escazù. provides accommodation with, a garden and a terrace. All rooms boast a flat-screen TV with cable channels and a private bathroom. Ester's place should be called Ester's Palace! It is a gorgeous home with loads of space, beautifully arranged. The host family is lovely and they looked after us superbly. The location is very good and easy to find. The nearby Avenida is gorgeous with some nice places to eat. 😃

Hostel Casa Ridgway offers accommodation in San José. Free parking is available on site. The rooms are equipped with a shared bathroom equipped with a shower. The staff were so so cheerful and welcoming, I felt straight like being at home. The shared shower & toilet was spacious, and felt comfortable using. The kitchen, living room and several shared public spaces were really comfortable.

Gaudys Hotel is located 8 minutes’ walk from La Sabana Metropolitan Park and 2 km from San José City Centre. Free WiFi access is available in public areas. very nice staff and good food.

Situated in San José, 5.3 km from La Sabana Metropolitan Park, Lost in San Jose Hotel & Hostel features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. Lets start by the room. I stayed in a double room with a bathroom and for the price it was very good. The hostel has a pool table and ping pong plus a large array of books you can read. They also have a nice dog that likes to play around and is pretty chill. Now to the best part, the staff. The staff was so nice and helpful. From the owner to the receptionist to the cleaning lady, everybody was amazing and actually made me feel at welcomed and at home, except for the small girl at the reception which you can't really talk to cause she doesn't talk loud enough and she also doesn't know how to smile, I guess with time she will get better at it. Anyway Ernesto, Maria and Gaston were amazing.

In the Wind Hostel and Guesthouse is set in the heart of lively, upscale San Pedro and only 400 meters from the University of Costa Rica and the student nightlife of Calle de la Amargura. I spent a week at this hostel and really enjoyed my stay. The staff was very personable and helpful. Per other's comments about the house being older, it is true but everything worked well and the wifi was excellent. Adored the coffee! The hostel was cleaned daily and throughout the day. Excellent resources available on buses, attractions, tours etc. Neighborhood was safe and near the university so a good variety of restaurants nearby.
