Try to avoid this city if possible!
Try to avoid this city if possible! They have nice pictures of some areas in travelling brochures but this is like 5% of the toal city. Mostly this city is heavily broken roads, mud-walkways, overcrowded, traffic jams and polluted air. When flying to Tanzania try to be it that city not too long. Fly or drive away to your next destination ASAP. And remember - prefer to use (locally represented) agency when travelling longer distances in Tanzania. If something happens with the vehicle (sooner or later it will happen) you have someone who might help you or at least worries about you.

I liked the outskirts of town - 1hr away from the airport was where I spent most at. The main city was a bit overwhelming and stressful at times, i.e. police officers hunting after foreigners and questioning your presence etc. I had two occasions where I was stopped just like that and the officers asking heaps of questions like where you come from, what your travels purpose was, what do you do, and if you're married (I'm a female solo traveller). I answered all the questions succinctly & clearly. However these officers just somehow would find ways to make it go longer than necessary. One even accused me of not having the right document (I was like what do you mean with the valid passport and visa?!). Anyway, he wanted to take me to the police station and court of law. I had a local driver with me who talked him out of it by giving him some shillings. And he turned to me and said "it's solved". Make sure you always carry your passport or ID documents with you. It's always helpful to know at least a local that you can reach out too when you find yourself trapped in tricky situations. Not much to see either in DAR. Maybe spend more time outside of the city.

Dar es Salaam is wonderful city to visit.
Dar es Salaam is wonderful city to visit. It has many interesting sites and amazing high-end restaurants to choose from. We had a wonderful experience at the AKEMI REVOLVING RESTAURANT where my spouse thoroughly enjoyed Lasagna. My grilled chicken was not exactly up to the task but passable. The service was great but the hotel manager Mr. Lorenzo Sachin could do with some PR. He moved around the restaurant totally ignoring some tables (such as ours) while busying himself with customers on other tables. Mr. Sachin, customer equity is important more so in hotel and restaurant industry... Mwenda (Kenya)
A lovely location out of the city centre over looking the sea. Ideal for one night at the start or end of your trip.
It is about 20 minutes by taxi to the ferry terminal and about 50-60 minutes to the airport.
While the hotel is large and has all the usual facilities, it does have a corporate feel to it.
The Indian restaurant serves magnificent Indian food and would go so far as to say it is the best we have ever had - having eaten in many Indian restaurants over the world including India.
The hotel is a beach hotel, the staff are warm and welcoming. Check-in was smooth. The hotel has a beach and restaurant on the opposite side of the main hotel. The rooms are clean. We had dinner at the restaurant, the portions were adequate and the food generally was delicious. There are many activities around the beachside to engage in: pool tables, swimming pool, paintball, and PlayStation 3 and 4. The kids enjoyed the pool as well. The breakfast had variety and was yummy.
The rooms are roomy and comfortable. The gym facility is well thought out and one of the best in Oyster Bay. The pool is big enough to get some laps in and relax (if you choose not to go to a local beach) and it is well protected from road noise. The spa was nice and I visited it three times during my week long stay. The massage was adequate to relax after many months of travels. I would definitely state the spa is second only to the personnel working the front desk.
Located on the beach, with great views.
I got a room with a view and a comfortable mattress.
Breakfast had a good selection if you arrived on time.
A young man and woman on the breakfast staff were very helpful and doing their best which set them apart from the more senior staff there.
The hotel has seen much better days but at its current price it is good value for money.
Staff at the bar were helpful.
Safe in the room.
This place is heavenly. The location is very good a distance from all the noise in Dar es salaam town. Not far from the beach and a town centre not sure of the name where you can access the visa ATM's and modern food courts. Not forgetting the amazing host and Dada Pendo who would act very first when you order any delicacy. Thanks a lot will sure be back . Wi-fi very strong in the rooms and their is a pool too
We stayed here briefly before an early flight. The room was spacious, although very simple. The fan and A/C worked well so we had a good night's rest. The hotel manager helped us arrange a reliable driver which was extremely helpful and gave us peace of mind. We got to eat dinner cooked by his wife while we were in a hurry to go get our rapid COVID tests and it was some of the best food I had in TZ.
The staff was very helpful and kind while we stayed there for two nights. The room and bathroom were clean, breakfast was tasty and the area is very safe to stay and easy accessible to the city centre and to the airport. 200m from the guesthouse you have a tasty Baby Ally restaurant, with tasty food.
And when we needed to leave early morning, they prepared a Lunch Box.
highly recommend it!
Such a lovely hotel! Great staff and great ambience. I checked earlier than the usual time but Humphrey did his best to allocate me a room after a tiring journey. I loved that my room was spacious and clean with great views of the ocean. All in all, you would not regret staying at the Giraffe Beach Hotel. Excellent value for money! It's going down on my list of fantastic hotels in Dar.
.AMAZING WONDEEFUL PEOPLE.
THE PLACE PLACE FACE INDIAN OCEAN WITH NICE VIEW....
THE SERVICES ARE NICES WITH MANAGER HIMSELF ON THE FRONT AND HIS ALL TEAM FROM THE GATE, RÉCEPTION, RESTAURANT, CLEANERS, SOLDIERS ECT...
IN GROSSO MODO, EVERYTHINGS ARE STANDARD AND NICE...
LET ME RECOMMANDE YOU WHEN YOU WILL PASS BY DAR ES SALAAM, PASS ALSO BY ELEMENT HOTEL TO EXPÉRIENCE GOOD THINGS
The location was okay, about 40 minutes from the International Airport of Dar es Salaam. The breakfast was okay realizing that you are in Tanzania. The hotel had a pool but we did not use it. We walked to a small rocky beach which was a 25 minute walk along a main road. The bed was nice and big. The shower was modern and had good pressure and warm water.
Best hotel I have stayed in since I arrived in Dar es Salaam and I have been here over a month. Hotel is clean, has A/C, Wifi, provides breakfast and the staff make you feel like you’re home. I have NOTHING bad to say about it and recommend to EVERYONE coming to Dar to stay. Place is safe and if needed they provide transportation at a reasonable price.
The location is good. The facilities are functional. The staff are very kind and actually let us check in 2 hours before check-in time. You can easily access the beach through white sands hotel which is just opposite. Ordering off the menu is also affordable though there is an extra cost of Tshs. 5,000/=
The neighborhood is serene and quite relaxing.
Was pleasant hotel. Judith was amazing. All reception staff ready help with anything.
Very friendly staff and security. Nice breakfast.
Is in centre of city centre. If you have business there.
Not much going on around that area. Quite far from mbezi beach. Would def stay again or in their hotel on beach. Views are amazing from the high floors.
If you are thinking of a good apartment in dar es salaam then go for it...it has a great city view with a friendly and helpful owner. It is near the commercial area and ferry point. Rather than going for a hotel you can go for a great price and some complementary services like tea and coffee.
