We stayed here for the second time. First time we stayed here only for one day and now for the whole week. The long stay was not worse than the short one. Everything was great again. Good location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. We didn't need a room cleaning every day, but staff whatever gave us a laundry bag with towels, soap etc. every day. It was very nice, but, to be honest, not necessary. I think, It would be enough to have a room cleaning/ laundry bag only twice a week. But in any case, it is very nice, that hotel provides us with it, even if it is redundant.

The room was clean, prepared very nice and had not the steril hotel feeling but gave a feeling of coziness. Room in the roof was absolute stunning!
The little welcome card and additions were put nicely on the bed for arrival.
We didn't expect anything from the breakfast and were surprised how well it was prepared and organized. We had a whole buffet just for our table! Awesome :)
Also the lovely man who checked in made sure we would get our breakfast before leaving early for our business meeting. Thank you!

Alkmaar surprised me in many ways, a beautiful place, with lots to see and do. Great cafes, restaurants, local shops. The people are very kind, I highly recommend visiting, I will definitely come back more often. From Amsterdam central station you can take the Intercity train, which takes around 30 minutes. I recommend the 1840 Foodbar restaurant and the Anne&Max café, both excellent.

We were lucky during our stay Alkmaar celebrated the 450 Years Ontzet from the Spaniards. The festivities were awesome. Alkmaar was very central for us in the Netherlands. We visited the great St Laurent church, Bergen, Bergen aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee, Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Den Helder and walked the beautiful parks in Alkmaar.

A lovely alternative to Amsterdam - the water courses around the city give the place a very special feel. And the people are very helpful and friendly. If you get a chance to, dine at Herren van Sonoy, a restaurant just a short walk away from the Grand Hotel Alkmaar on Gedempte Nieuwesloot.

If you want a mini-Amsterdam experience without the big city hassle, Alkmaar is the place to go. Very "Dutch" but on a much smaller scale than other cities. Lots of cute lanes to wander down, an amazing church, loads of cute coffee shops and artisan boutiques. Excellent bars and restaurants - and of course, a few canals and too many bikes!

It was great to stay in another part of the Netherlands...
It was great to stay in another part of the Netherlands other than Amsterdam. I would say it is more suited to couples, older people or families. There are some coffee shops but the feel of the town is much calmer and more chilled than Amsterdam. One of the pluses is that there is a great High street where you can find some little gems and some fantastic places to eat and drink.
Wow! I traveled alone and loved this place. It is above a restaurant and the restaurant staff assisted with checking me in. I was on the 3rd floor (2nd for Europeans) and I was not bothered by any noise at night. The room was large, very comfortable and modern. First place I stayed during my entire trip where there was good functioning AC. I really enjoyed this hotel and the town it's in. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hope to return with my partner in the future.
I LOVED this airbnb in Alkmaar! The adorable town was the highlight of my trip to the Netherlands and this was in no small part due to this charming stay. The hosts left an array of treats upon arrival (wine, cheese, chocolate) as well as more helpful additions for cooking like sugar, oil, butter, etc. The place was within 5 minute walking distance of nearly everything and decorated wonderfully. The cheese cellar is such a neat addition! Would stay again!
I absolutely loved it. Everything about my stay was enjoyable - my favourite place I stayed in the Netherlands! The location was so close to the center and just a stone’s away from the cheese market (the reason I went to Alkmaar), the room was private and super clean, and the staff was all friendliness and welcoming. I loved being able to sit in the middle of the hotel and get to know other guests as well!
Fantastic central location, spacious and well equipped apartment, perfect for a short stay. Alkmaar is a beautiful town with much of the charm of Amsterdam, but much less busy and touristy. The kitchenette was a real bonus to be able to make coffee and tea or snacks, and is very well stocked - although there are so many great bars and restaurants within a short distance anyway.
It was my second time traveling to Alkmaar from work, but my first time in this hotel. It was great! the room was beautiful, clean, and had a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable living room and bedroom.
Its location is also a big plus as it's close to the center.
The hosts were also great. though they aren't physically there, they are always available by text or phone.
Room was spacious and linen was clean. Big bathroom. The main street is adjacent to the street the hotel is situated at. The weekend market is right at the hotel's doorstep! The bicycle rental shop is just round the corner so it's convenient. Very near the city centre where the cheese market is held and yet not right where the noise is.
The location couldn't have been more convenient. The hotel staff were also very friendly and responsive to our complaints. They were doing the best they could with the way that the hotel seems to be run. Nespresso coffee and good organic tea in the rooms.
The host was wonderful, very kind and available for all questions. The interior is lovely, with lots of attention for details and clean. If you like you can go by bike to the old town of Alkmaar. Or go to the beach, which takes 20 minutes by car.
I really enjoyed the location of the hotel, which was situated along the water and surrounded by many great shops and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was great; the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly.
During planning, it was hard to determine the quality of this selection. The hotel is immaculate, well-staffed, well-located and provides a full selection breakfast. Even little things like loaner umbrellas were provided.
The hotel/hostel is right in the middle of the town, only 5 mins walk to Weight house. Only a block away from "The Karperton" Parking lot, which the rate was not expensive for overnight stay.
Lovely comfortable apt, great location for seeing the town of Alkmaar. Owners provided simple and thorough information for location and access. I look forward to returning in the future.
