The staff were really attentive in very difficult circumstances. Only one person was on when we checked in which seemed very strange but otherwise she dealt with us quickly and efficiently. The 'hotel' was clean and the bedroom comfortable with a large ensuite shower room. The views from the room overlooked the beautiful garden area and on a sunny day were absolutely lovely. The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed it very much.

The Chequers is in a great location for visiting Battle. It is within walking distance of The Abbey, the Battlefield, the station and Battle high street. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the pub has lots of traditional features like creaky floors and low ceilings because of the age of the building.
