If you love diving and snorkelling, it's a paradise.
If you love diving and snorkelling, it's a paradise. I got my first open water diver license while staying in Mindelo. And there's always something going on in the city. Full of activities and cultural things to enjoy!

I liked the atmosphere and vibrance of the city.
I liked the atmosphere and vibrance of the city. Everywhere at night is live music. During the day you can walk around town or do an island tour or relax at Laguinha Beach. At night its best you take a taxi everywhere you go, because it can get a little sketchy. The taxi's are 2 euro's per ride.
Don't forget Mindelo is a city with it's own problems. There are a lot of homeless people, junks and other people who want something. Especially when you are a tourist. You have to find your way.
Nice places to eat: Casa Cafe Mindelo, La Pergola, Nautilus (these are all pretty touristic)
Nice cafe: Jazzy Bird
I would say, maximum of 7 days is enough.

Mindelo is a city with a vibe.
Mindelo is a city with a vibe. Its vibrant, full of colours and lovely people. I was there during the annual carnival -- a must see. But Sao Vicente, Mindelo, is a place where you can mingle and jingle at the same time.
I loved the different arts on the streets. And of course Cesera Evoro's house.
Mindelo is full of artists -- musicians most of all.

Mindelo is a place that you can like or not be too sure...
Mindelo is a place that you can like or not be too sure about. I liked it. It was a bit rough edged,, but more interesting and lively than Praia. The exhibit on Cesaria Evora in the museum was interesting. Buy some CDs- you won't regret it! Some of the restaurants are too European and cater to the yachtie crowd- find ones that are more Verdean. The markets are interesting- be sure to go into the fish market. Walk the streets and look at the wall murals and architecture. Go into the artisan area. I wan't there on a weekend- so live music was less easy to find, but in Cafe Mindelo you can listen to it.

It is not too big so it's easy to get around.
It is not too big so it's easy to get around. You have an accessable beach nearby, also great for snorkelling. The best places to eat need some exploring, ask other travellers who have been around for longer. Watch out for pickpockets. Was a major problem now.
This small family-run hotel is on a hill very close to the port of Mindelo and with very nice view.
Catty, the young woman who runs the place, went out of her way to help us figure out whether we needed to do a COVID test prior to our domestic flight (not such a straightforward issue, as we were getting conflicting replies): she accompanied us to the clinic very early in the morning, she checked elsewhere for any alternatives, if need be, and she waited until we made sure everything was settled. We really appreciated her help!
I had difficulty finding the property. Twice I walked past the building.
Roads rarely have street-names in Cabe Verde and local people, while friendly and helpful, do not always recognize the name or address of a business (even if they live in the next street).
I had to be collected from a nearby hotel where, in desperation, I sought help and refuge.
Everything else was fine except having to pay 500$00 CVE more than the booking price because it was asserted that there was an error on the Booking.com page.
Comfortable old skool but ultra modern stay in city centre, a few interesting streets from the centre. We only stayed a night, but that was fine, huge festival going on in the city centre, so we joined in and had such fun. Room large, cool and understated style, bathroom fine, hot water etc, all good, Linen all fresh and plenty of it. Staff laid back, breakfast the usual, but enough of it, and the pool hidden in the centre of the house a decadent indulgence after the dusty Mindelo streets.
Orietta and Stefano were great hosts, they made our stay wonderful with an easy check-in, useful recommendations, excellent breakfast, really beautiful historical house with all details in order, cozy pool, nice rooftop, clean and comfortable room. Perfect place to enjoy the interesting city of Mindelo in the amazing island of Sao Vicente.
We just can say thank you for everything and we would love to come back one day.
The room and bathroom, same as whole hotel are clean, rooms are quite atmospheric. Breakfast was OK, especially that it was coupled with a fantastic view from the terrace. Service was fine, though not falling over their heads to be helpful, especially when compared with other places I stayed in Cape Verde. The location is fine, close to the centre, though some walking uphill when coming from downtown.
I was worried that the location would be too far from the center of Mindelo. In fact, it was a short walk both to the center of Mindelo and to the beach, admittedly a walk downhill and then a return uphill. It was even closer to our two favorite music venues: Metalo Fast Good (sic) and Birdie Jazz. Also, Katy and her team were great. Breakfast was an event, eating on a balcony overlooking Mindelo.
The room was clean and big. There was also a balcony. The bathroom was super clean. The owner was really friendly and the breakfast she prepared was great too.
Even if the place is not located in the center of Mindelo, it is not far by foot and one can also take a bus a few meters from the house next to a nice bar/restaurant and reach the center of the city in a few minutes (for 40 cents!).
Casa Cafe Mindelo is located in the heart of Mindelo within walking distance (with a small bag) from the ferry terminal. The rooms in the hotel show some wear from frequent guest turnover, but are otherwise fine for a short stay. The restaurant is fine for breakfast, but I'd dine elsewhere for dinner. Under booking's old rating system, I would rate this hotel a 7.5/10.
Amazing property, with amazing views. very close to the city center. we had a car so was able to easily get around but with 10-15 minutes walk you can be in downtown Mindelo and beach. Jeffrey is a great host and can assist with any questions you may have. the property has everything you could need inside and I would definitely stay here if i ever return.
Great location on a quiet street close to downtown Mindelo. The owners are gracious and lovely people. Comfortable room, attentive staff, excellent breakfasts (two kinds of cheese and bread, fruit and yogurt, bacon and eggs) and plunge pool. City beach about a ten minute walk.
The staff at the property was really super nice, Mrs Caurina told us a bit about the history of Cabo Verde and Mindelo and served us the best breakfast we had in our trip. The rooms were nice and clean and the location is very central.
Breakfast was only european/continetal with the bad imported food from oversea, no capucha. Hotel is okay for Mindelo, but only because it's Mindelo! It's a running down overpriced island, every other island is so much better.
Very beautiful apartment, well located and equipped! The owner was really nice with us helping us to discover the magic of Mindelo :) I highly recommend this for everyone wanting to feel the authentiticy of this city.
Everything about this place is excellent. The hosts are super responsive and Cindy and Marlene are on hand to answer any questions or provide support. Would highly recommend this as you place to stay in Mindelo.
Location, location, location as the Real Estate mantra goes. Beautiful view. Lovely terrace with relaxing bench to sit and gaze on Mindelo and surrounding area. Space to chill out. Recommended!
Small hotel but clean and very cosy.
Staff very welcoming and kind.
The breakfast was very good and the owner would always ask if we wanted something in particular.
Management of the hotel is very friendly and useful. Breakfast was included and it was a good breakfast (not continental). The location is perfect. Highly recommend.
Location of the hotel is really nice - it is located above the Mindelo and offers stunning view of the town. It is better to have car / taxi to get to the hotel.
