The road is just terrible - and it puts you off having to leave your accommodation as you know you have to venture onto that road through town.
The Pub owners need a little education on how to create a cosy atmosphere as there was none. But restaurants are great.

Its an awesome little town with scenic views.
Its an awesome little town with scenic views. It has everthing you need but if you do happen to leave your entire bag at home, like me, Alice is just a 25km drive away. Everyone is friendly and helpfull and the nature walks are a must but maybe take a flask if cofee and or some water with in a backpack for the road. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be going back for the garden show in the summer. I was amazed at the large variety if azalias growing evrywhere. The pizza at the restaurant was amazing. The Savemor surprised us with a wide variety of cheeses and other food options.

A walk in the Arboretum to the 39 Steps waterfall, the labaryth at the Edge and a visit to ST Paul's on the Hill are all all must do activities. Do yourself a favour and taste the locally brewed beer and enjoy the tasting in their garden or tasting room - th biltong bowl is also highley recomended.

The forest in the mountain is breathtaking beautiful.
The forest in the mountain is breathtaking beautiful. The road between Cathcart and Hogsback is only for serious 4x4 cars, no warning about the terrible condition. The chocolatier in the main road needs a recommendation as well as the warm pastries.
We enjoyed our 2 day stay at the Goonvrea. Thanks to Nick for his patience with us. We were driving from Cape Town straight to Hogsback. On our way to Hogsback we had to stop a few times on the roadside with tyre bursts. Which resulted in me and my partner missing the check up time. Nick was amazingly patient with us throughout the our ordeal. The weather was not so friendly with us on the day. Thanks to Nick for your patients, we wont hesitate to come to Hogsback again , people were very friendly with us there.
Location brilliant, loved the homely feel of our suite (Frodo) and that we could self cater, the fireplace in the bedroom was absolutely amazing as it was chilly in the evenings and it lent such a lovely atmosphere. Right at the edge of the forest so easy to get to. The cliff bath was so special, monkeys running around outside and the resident dogs....OOOOHHHH and the amazing Kahuna massage we had with Amanda in the area overlooking the forest.
All staff were great!
Location is (I'm 99% sure) the best in Hogsback. The view is breathtaking and the cottage is perfectly situated to see all the landmarks of Hogsback. The cottage is unpretentious, but comfortable. It is well equipped and had whatever we needed. The manager Annari is amazing, she is welcoming and made us feel right at home like old friends. She was very helpful with everything happening in town with recommendations on where to eat, where to go and not to go etc.
The view from our room overlooked the river and garden area which was absolutely beautiful. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful and really helped to make our stay a memorable one. The supper we ordered was delicious. The room was spacious and the fireplace was an absolute bonus. The bed was very comfy. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi bath. Will definitely stay there again and recommend it as a place to stay in Hogsback
The most comfortable stay we've had in Hogsback. Ian is a wonderful host, who made us feel very welcome. He took the time to show us around the property, and share his knowledge of the plants and trees that surrounded us, as well as walks and trails we could follow. We were kept company by the friendliest dogs, and spent a few very contented, relaxed days at the cottage. Highly recommended.
I really loved how clean and historic the hotel was. It made me think that we were living in a different era. The hotel has a history and you can feel it. The staff treated us well and gave us some good tips on which restaurants to visit and where the starting points were for some nearby hikes. The town has a general loving atmosphere and everyone is welcoming and happy.
The Hogsback is one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. The indigenous forests, waterfalls, mist and fresh air are wonderful. The dinner we were served was 4 courses and all were delicious with extremely generous portions. Breakfast was excellent too - I especially enjoyed the fresh crumpets. This is a great place to visit and enjoy old fashioned hospitality!
The accommodation is close to the main road in Hogsback, which made it easy to find . The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. The staff was very friendly and polite , and showed us around , to all the beautiful scenery and the Cliff bath with a view which we were able to book for beautiful sunrise views.
The house is very spacious and is set in a beautiful location. The owner is very warm, welcoming and shared a lot of information with us about Hogsback. The essential oils shop on the premises is a must visit. We were especially happy about the house being dog friendly so we could take our dog with.
The place was amazing and the area of Hogs back beautiful. Staying at Maple Grove really enhanced the Hogsback experience. Will definitely make it a point to go Back. The Hosts, Lindsay and Peter was friendly and easy to deal with and of great assistance in exploring the area.
What an awesome place. Serene and calm in the Hogsback mountains. The host was super nice and offered for us to stay another night free of charge. Unfortunately we could not take him on his offer as we already had prior arrangements. Will definitely visit again.
Lovely large cottage with verandah, in a little forest setting. Really well equipped and very comfortable. Gloria was a lovely friendly host and made us feel very welcome, giving lots of advice of things to do and see in Hogsback.
Wonderful cottage with a lovely host. Off the grid, so no load shedding worries. The fireplace was absolutely amazing for heating up the cottage. Beautiful garden. Great location. Great stay here in Hogsback!
The location is perfect whilst being surrounded by surreal trees and friendly staff who are extremely helpful. Rustic yet cozy feels in the self catering cottages accompanied by warming fireplaces.
The person at the reception desk was friendly and informative and booking in was easy. The location was perfectly situated overlooking the Hogsback forest.
