Few guestrooms provide two comfortable chairs in the room - this room had two! Another small but welcome addition was face-cloths in the bathroom as well as water and glasses on the beside tables. There was a lovely communal coffee/lounge room and a table and chairs on the patio to enjoy the morning sun. Absolutely every need was catered for in the room which was tastefully decorated and very comfortable.

A beautiful town with so much to explore.
A beautiful town with so much to explore. For tourists s longer stay is advisable to see everything this lovely place has to offer. But it also offers perfect overnight stops when passing through. We recommend Barrydale Karoo Lodge. With an in-house pub and restaurant, you need nothing more.

Barrydale is a small town with a lot of potential. Wonderful artistic shops and drop in eateries. Amazing 2nd hand bookshop - new books also available - I couldn't leave!! Close to Warmwaterberg - a must for a visit, not far from Swellendam and Witsand - beautiful beach. Lovely walks in the hills around the village.

It is lovely, safe and quiet.
It is lovely, safe and quiet. Most of the restaurants close at 5pm, so don't expect to eat out at a nice restaurant. Fortunately the guest house we were staying at was spacious and comfortable, and so we made a plan to buy our own food and eat in. But seriously, going out to eat should be an option.

One of the highlights was the sense of peace and tranquillity we felt in this authentic ‘dorp’. The solitude of the town provided a serene backdrop, making our stay truly magical.
Exploring the town and its surroundings was a delightful adventure. Quaint local shops, friendly faces, and the simplicity of life in the Karoo made our stay truly authentic. My list of mandatory places to visit would be Diesel and Crème for their out-of-this-world milkshakes, The House of Books (a paradise for any bibliophile), The Karoo Art Hotel for coffee or a gin and the gorgeous décor and coffee shop ‘Die Langhuis’
This gem on the border of the Karoo has the potential to become an even more coveted destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat in this unique South African landscape.
In summary, our time in this small town was a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of big city life.
We absolutely loved our night at the Karoo Moon Cottage. It is beautifully decorated in a modern take on the old-school Barrydale style (kind of retro chic) - the little touches are quirky and wonderful. We loved the big bed, electric blankets (it was a very cold winter night) and delicious coffee in the morning. Our host's recommendations for dinner and breakfast were also spot on. Everything was perfect! We would definitely recommend this spot for anyone who would like a quiet, comfortable place to themselves when staying in Barrydale.
Breakfast was excellent - especially the German meat salad. Everything was exceptional - from serving the coffee, showing us how to break an egg with a special "thingi" a heater to keep us warm, beautiful gardens and lovely dogs. Uwe proudly told us how happy they are in Barrydale and sharing their story on how they came about to move from Hamburg to SA, Thank you Uwe, Carel and your friendly staff.
This place is amazing! Terry, the host, is so friendly and she created the most stunning guesthouse. It's cosy and stylish. Easygoing and comfortable. If you go here (which you should when going to Barrydale!) book at least 2 nights or longer. Barrydale is an interesting little down with many hidden gems to discover and Terry created a place where you at the same time can slow down and enjoy The Karoo.
Uwe and Carol have lovingly cultivated the amazing museum of a house, as well as gorgeous gardens. You could sit on the veranda all day. A short walk to first class restaurant (Mez) and friendly staffed shops. The Africa room has a great private terrace and direct access to two porches. We loved the magpies - and wished the Magpie art gallery had been open when we were there.
It was quaint, elegant, arty. The food was good for a small town hotel.( some out of stock) Staff could have been slightly more visible in inside and outside dining areas( often had to go looking for them)I liked the fires. I liked the bar.I liked the books made available to read.I liked the music. The coffee was good ( super important)The savoury scones were very good.
The friendliness of the hostess was lovely. The scenery was outstanding. What was really wonderful was the restaurant and the pleasure of having breakfast which was amazing by the way, on a wood deck overlooking a dam teeming with bird life and watching weaver birds building their nests.
The evening braai was in a great peaceful area just outside the cottage.
Birdsong was our favorite accomodation during our South Africa trip. A comfortable and spacious cottage with all the comforts of home makes Birdsong a perfect place from which to explore Barrydale. The host was wonderful...ensuring we were happy at Birdsong and providing lots of great ideas for enjoying Barrydale.
Such a fun, eclectic spot. Full of antiques. We loved it. Conveniently located beside the Diesel and Crème Restaurant, open for Breakfast and Lunch. Their Chia Latte was the best we have ever had. They recommended the Mez Karoo Kitchen for dinner…it was excellent as well.
Barrydale is a beautiful town, and Sandy's Place is well located within the town. It is within walking distance of all the restaurants. The unit was well equipped and comfortable. We had parking right outside our door, which made packing and unpacking easy.
The peace and tranquility of the location on a fruit farm. We loved the walks through the orchards.
Close proximity to town and restaurants. Our host Yvonne was really wonderful and very helpful with local knowledge. The cottage was amazing and well equipped.
Extremely well located on route in the main street, and within easy walking distance of the famous Barrydale restaurants and bric-a-brac shops. The Lodge has recently been taken over, and refurbished, and the owners are both delightful. A great nights rest
Centrally situated, beautiful hotel full of art and collectibles. Comfortable room, lounge with roaring fireplace, stunning garden with the pool.
Very friendly staff, delicious breakfast in stylish dinning room. Highly recommended.
Very cozy rooms. Friendly, accommodating hosts. Great shower! Like a cross between a self catering cottage and a hotel room. perfect for a short stay in Barrydale. Walking distance of restaurants and shops. We recommend it!
The service, the accommodations, the food, and ultimately the wildlife safari drives and guide were outstanding. Everything we wanted to see and more made the perfect 3 day experience a vacation to remember.
The indoor fire place was so welcome now in winter and the 5* amenities was such a treat. Fun and very very very comfortable. The only place to stay in Barrydale.
Very nice guest house with great location in Barrydale, and what makes this standout is the owner who is extraordinary service minded and also very friendly.
