There is not much if anything here but that is what you come here for. It's an old motel, with an amazing story, that could use a bit of TLC but the rooms are clean, the air conditioning works, and the water was hot in the shower. A great place to stay and show the photos to your friends.

A tiny historic town looking much the way it did 100 years ago. A tour of Marta Becket's murals in the Opera House is highly recommended; we can only hope that performances once again take place in this unique hall. The restaurant currently sits empty, so bring anything you want to eat with you. There is a refrigerator in the common area you can use to store some food. The surrounding Armargosa Desert stretches out east, north, and south of the village as far as the eye can see. Amazingly, there is an aquifer deep underground fed by the Armargosa River (also underground at this point). So there are some ranches and tiny Nevada casino towns nearby (but not too nearby). For more info about the Armargosa, visit the Armargosa Conservancy's website at armargosaconservancy dot org.

The information and warning to refuel before entering the National Park are true. The price of fuel in NP is really higher. Stock up on plenty of water, the temperature is really high. Exertion in the heat will make up for the beauty that appears to be dead, but it is not.

It's close to the East entrance to Death Valley, which makes it a less expensive alternative to resort accommodations in the valley. It's also close to gas and food, which is just 7 miles away to the North, in Nevada (Nevada prices). Again, providing less expensive alternative to gas, and food in the valley.

I’ve struggled to answer the questions. The answers to some were neither yes nor no, but “sort-of.” Overall, the charms may have outweighed the negatives, but there were negatives you’d have to be willing to overlook. questions

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Amargosa. Guests should know upfront, however, that this is a 100-year old historic facility and it looks it, inside and out. It's also in the middle of nowhere, about 1.5 hrs from Death Valley National Park. It will definitely be a "rustic" experience, but the wonderfully friendly staff will make it all worth it. Keep in mind that you're stepping back in time 100-years, manage your expectations and embrace the experience!

Location was good, parking was in a designated area in full sun so not directly outside your room. Bed was a little firm but fresh clean sheets. Shower was OK but you have to wait 10-15 mins for the hot water to come through. Apparently only 1 boiler for entire hotel. Fresh drip coffee made in the lounge area at 8am each morning.. There is a fridge and microwave near the coffee for everyone to use. Cafe/restaurant not open.

quaintness and quirkiness of the whole establishment, its historic character, the old photos and murals (even though they were peeling!), the ability to have tea constantly and coffee in the morning, and to make your own meals (breakfast and dinner) using the microwave, toaster and frig in the room by the old dining room. This should be made better known in the advertising of the hotel.

If you look beyond the obvious and consider the history of the building it is full of character and charm The receptionist was brilliant, she was so nice and helpful The location suited us perfectly after our journey from Mojavie through Death Valley. Of note we arrived late due to underestimating the length of our journey but the hotel staff still accommodated our late arrival.

After reading the reviews i was generally pleased by the stay. This hotel is full of local history which I found very interesting. The tour was well worth my time. All the paintings add charm to the place. The room was clean. The beds were very comfortable and the carpet looked to be new. The plumbing was old but by following the directions I had a nice hot shower.

An absolute dump, dirty. Run down, paint falling off walls, dirt parking with pot holes and puddles, filthy, plumbing didn't work. After checking in, seeing our room and learning that you had to let the water drip for 15 minutes before you could turn it on, we left and spent the night elsewhere. Lost $113. Can't believe you list this hotel on your site!!!

This is a unique, amazing place. If you want a boring, predictable, conventional hotel, then stay elsewhere. But if you want a historical building in a starkly beautiful setting with a fascinating backstory, consider the Amargosa Hotel. And make sure to take time for a tour of the Opera House.

Quirky motel. Stayed there 5 years ago and went back on purpose. Motel is a bit of a disaster but the SHOWERS. Water travels through borax deposits that make it so soft. Could stay in the shower for hours. This time the Opera House was open and what a treat. A DO NOT miss experience. Thanks.

Very great location for its price near Death Valley National Park. However, very worn - but I think that is the intention to keep the old feel. Kids thought we were sleeping in the Bates motel.😂 But we felt safe and had a good sleep. Thank you.

it was an experience! The history of the Opera House was what we came for, and it did not disappoint. I wasn’t expecting much from the hotel, and it was actually ok. The room was sparse, but clean.

Fantastic, historic and atmospheric hotel. It’s obvious age and quirky facilities are its advantages if you’re willing to indulge them. Friendly staff. Highly recommend the Opera House tour.
