The pool and breakfast fantastic! We have started before and we’re looking forward to the hot tub but it was under maintenance. They upgraded out mr Room to One with a jacuzzi tub! The front desk gave great local recommendations to try

Retro Inn at Mesa Verde, hotel in Cortez

Boasting a terrace, BBQ facilities and views of mountain, Retro Inn at Mesa Verde is situated in Cortez, 15 km from Mesa Verde National Park Visitor Center.

Ella, who worked the desk, helped me change the date of our reservation and she went above and beyond to make sure everything was right. Loved the retro vibe of the place (hence the name!). They even had a game room and laundry facilities and a nice little courtyard with comfy patio furniture for enjoying the nice weather. The breakfast was great and, again, cool retro booths and serving pieces.

This is a sleepy town without any real attractions where everything closes early even on weekend nights. However, I can strongly recommend the WildEdge brew pub, both for its beers and the live music (though also closing at 9 pm). The Canyons of the Ancients and adjacent pueblo ruins North of Cortes are well worth visiting.

A very nice town of about 9000 people, a very clean town with some awesome eateries. Lounging Lizard I highly recommend as well as Beny's Diner for breakfast. Wish I had more time to explore this little gem of a town. Very easy to get around.

Cortez is a cute little town. Friendly people and a variety of restaurants and fast food facilities. Not sure I would avoid any part of Cortez. Close to the 4 Corners attraction as well as Mesa Verde.

    Cortez is a convenient location.

Cortez is a convenient location. We went to Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley, Canyonlands and Arches National Park, and Telluride from there. Arches National Park closes for a few hours if too crowded so it's recommended to get there early.

My hubby picked up tacos at a local Mexican restaurant in Cortez and they were quite good. Cortez is a small town, so navigating around town is very easy. Next time, I would most likely look for a cabin in the mountains for lodging.

They put on a great fireworks display!

They put on a great fireworks display! It was awesome to see the locals very appreciative of the display, also. This town is less than 20 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park. Not sure if it was the area or the fact that it was the 4th of July but there was more drug & police activity than we are used to(we are from Northern Colorado). If you need ice for your cooler, don't waste your time going anywhere but to the Safeway and they have very nice cashiers to boot!

My wife and I support locally owned and operated resteraunts over chains. We are trying to apply this to hotels/motels as well. That transition is a process. I felt we were rewarded for our effort at the Retro. That said front desk staffing needs an upgrade. I realize at this point having a warm body is a challenge. The young man that checked us in provided no customer service. It was a poor start- fortunately the condition of the room and the overall unique ambience overcame the poorly trained front desk individual

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is in a better area of Cortez, the staff was friendly, and while the outside may seem rundown it was one of the nicer interior hotel rooms. I did appreciate that while the hotel was 4-20 friendly they made it so the rooms were not overpowered with the smell. I will continue to come back to this location during my trips and recommend to everyone if I see the next visit that the air conditioning was fixed.

The property was amazing. The location was great, being close to Cortez but also isolated enough to be private and rustic. The host has paid great attention to detail in the furnishings (both interior & exterior) and was very thorough in the supplies available, and she explains how everything works very well. The place was very clean and cozy. We would have liked to have stayed longer.

Well-appointed, clean, simple rooms with everything in great working order and nice bathroom-tiled floor made for a comfortable stay. Owners are nice and unassuming. Good place to bring a well-behaved dog! Place is away from fray and near trails with great Mountain views. It reminds me of our childhood vacations out west in traditional motels. 🙏

Was right on main drag of Cortez that leads to Mesa Verde. SHort drive to park entrance but then quite a drive from park entrance to cliff dwelling sites (30 minutes+). Hotel close to several good restaurant options in town of Cortez. Place was clean, bed comfortable and we pretty much slept and left.

NO LONGER A MOTEL!!! I booked this motel months in advance. When we arrived, there was a sign on the "office" door that said, "This is no longer a hotel. These are private homes. Please contact your booking agent." We had to sleep in the car for the night cause the ENTIRE area was all booked up...

Could accommodate 3 adults and it was pet friendly. The first room they assigned us was not ready for guests. There were beer bottles all over and the room hadn’t been cleaned. The second room was OK. It was clean and the TV was on Directv. Air conditioner was good.

We chose the hotel since it was close to Mesa Verde (since the park hotel was full). It is very convenient to the park and of course to Cortez and the amenities of a small town (food, shopping, etc). It was quiet and the bed was comfortable.
