If you re looking for gentle waves (in January after it gets bigger), quiet time, low key, bird watching, then it is the place to be.
Stingrays jumping out of the water & pelicans flying really low : amazing !!
El Cuco city center is more vibrant on week ends. Good taqueria and pupuseria for food. Amazing sunrise/ sunset.
Also we did 1 day trip to La Union to go up to El Espiritu de pa Montaña: spectacular view! Absolutely worth it (need a 4x4 / guided tour will help you get there for 15$)
Highly recommend to stay at Hotel Miraflores as it is next to El Cuco beach, on Las Flores beach: wayyyy less people, the hotel is on a cliff so you ll have the best views with a breeze. It is still walking distance from the city centre to get whatever you need.
The hotel has a swimming pool & outdoor showers, great soots to hang out in the garden with shades.
It has a great menu. We also ate at la
Taqueria Nuevo Sason y Comedor : best tacos & burritos !! We had drinks at El Bule Dolphin: great cocktails & perfect for sunset as well as La Punta Mango beach & hotel (25 min drive - end of road is unpaved but it totally worth it) barman there won a national competition and does the best margaritas & piña coladas ever!
Ozmen from Miraflores helped us a lot by asking around to plan some cool day trips!

The beach itself is ok, however this beach town is pretty rural and not much to do. The beach could use a clean up and some maintenance, the hotel we stayed at , Sambo Mambo, didn’t even offer beach towels. There are no lounge chairs and beach showers have a foul smell. There very few restaurant options and Samba Mamba on site restaurant was awful. If you dont eat before 7, you wont get a decent meal. This place is ok if you plan to visit during the day and bring everything you need. Please dont stay at Sambo Mambo- this place is infested with roaches, found rat droppings, bed bugs and mold.
What a beautiful family own hotel. I enjoyed every single part of it. There’s only 5 rooms in the property which make it feel so private. Sometimes I felt the whole property was for us even though all rooms were booked. Staff was amazing very attentive, willing to help and kind. Food at the restaurant was good and the courtesy drinks were a highlight. If you’re in the area I highly recommend this place or even if you’re driving from the capital is really worth it the drive!
The section of the Playa Flores where the hotel is situated just outside of El Cuco village is amazing! The place is a real gem in the quite untouristic country. Just because of my nearby cooperation at a university in San Miguel I have got to this area for a short 2-night stay at the beach. Everything was exceptional, especially the views and the quality of the restaurant! The food and drinks offered were incredible!
Come as a guest, leave as a friend. That could be the motto at Sugarloaf.
Cata and Ramon are super hosts who make you feel at home instantly.
If you look for a boutique fancy hotel, don't come here.
At Sugarloaf, feel free to be you, sharing stories, beers and meals, enjoying a bonefire on the beach.
That was a highlight in our Latino trip.
The beach was nice and empty, the neighborhood was calm. There was parking for our car. There was an accident blocking the road and we were stuck in traffic for six hours, so the hotel let us switch our reservation to the next day.
The hotel is beautiful, clean, secure, and intimate. The staff are very helpful. The hotel is quite small (only six rooms) so it is quiet and feels a bit like a retreat. The restaurant on site is fantastic.
Beautiful place, beautiful hotel, very good breakfasts, nice room and beautiful beach practically empty to which you have to go down the stairs. It's just a pity that I spent only 1 day in this hotel
I loved the scenery, the beach is just amazing truly beautiful, the hotel is a bit small but it is fine, i did'n get the room with ocean view due to full occupancy, but we enjoyed our stay
Lovely location by the beach and very nice staff. The hotel is very attractively built, with a pool and bar/restaurant on site. A nice breakfast is included in the price.
beautiful little suite hotel on a private beach. Lovely rooms overlooking the pool/beach with one of the biggest beds ive ever had the pleasure to sleep in. fab place.
