Huanuco itself is rather noisy, and not particularly touristic. The regional museum is ridiculous. However, there are interesting places to visit in the area, such as Ambo and Kotosh. The food is cheap and filling and the plaza very attractive, especially at night. Taximotos provide cheap transport (2 soles) but the city is small enough to walk around in. Regional restaurants are located in the southern part of the city. Huanuco is clean and the climate very comfortable--locals say it is the best in the world.
