Last minute booking for us and it was great! Location is right in town and handy to all shops etc. Beautiful views of Mount Ruapehu as we drove into the motel and from our front deck. Lots of room for parking. Room was small but great! Two single bed room for us - was tidy, clean and cosy. Heat pump worked a treat as it was a cool night. Shower was AMAZING! Pressure was fantastic. Small kitchenette (no sink) but was enough for our one night stay. Sky TV too !

Surprised by the great collection and displays of military equipment from the last century at the Waiouru Military Museum Found my uncle on the wall of remembrance, he was killed in Europe during the Second World War He must have done his corps training at Waiouru

Whole town needs a good lick of paint. Needs to make more of its opportunities. Has huge amount of traffic, but to be honest, not much street appeal. You wouldn't stay unless you were there for a purpose. Such a shame

The town seems run down but it suited us to stop for the night as everywhere else that was a reasonable price was booked out. We had our own food and arrived late as we'd driven up from the ferry in Wellington so it was great to have a motel with a kitchen. Didn't visit anywhere as we left early next morning.

Small but quaint town. Absolutely loved staying here.. Has everything you need for a night or 2. Conveniently located. The Italian place has the best huuuuuge meals for a great price. The pub was lacking staff, so no food but still nice to get a beer and a game off pool. Plenty to do and see in the area and lots of exploring to be had especially with an off road vehicle.

Waiouru is an isolated area with average eateries except for one , Rustic, which is great but not open when we went there. We ate at a greasy spoon which gave us plenty of food was called Italian Pizza and restaurant. We were on an overnight on the way to the cook straight ferry. Easy to walk around Waiouru. What wouldn’t we do, we wouldn’t stay at the Roadside Motels again.

The presentation and hospitality of the staff was top notch.

The presentation and hospitality of the staff was top notch. Bathrooms were very clean, and beds and room were of a high standard. Most of the rooms appear to have all the beds in one room, although there could be others with separate rooms. This made it a little hard to sleep with excited kids, but did make the stay fun. TV has free Netflix and other options (you don't have to use your own account as we found in the last place) which was a bonus. Lovely property to walk around. Quiet and relaxing. Worth the stay for a couple or business traveler, or a small family. Recommended!
