The Aviation themed lodge was absolut amazing! Warren built a real, flying Mustang from a kit and was a source of perfectly detailed information on those planes! Highly recommended for every aviation enthusiast!
Yes, and the breakfast was very good too!

Thames is a quiet town with quite a few coffee shops and a good variety of stores to browse. The supermarket (Pack & Save) was close to where we were staying. There are several locations close to Thames that are worth a visit The Gold mine just north of town Cathedral beach and the hot water beach are worth the time to check out. A scenic drive up to Coramandel town is interesting. Just be careful on the narrow sea side road. Enjoy

Didnt know which cafe to choose, but this one had a lot of people in it, so we chose this one.Hot chocolate cafe. The big breakfast and the pancakes were delicious. Quaint, busy little township, just caught the tail end of the market. We stumbled on another cafe further up, which sold this devine louise cake & caramel wheaty slice. Yummy. I thoroughly enjoyed the Nakontong Thai restaurant for dinner too.

Shared bathroom and toilet wasn't good.
Shared bathroom and toilet wasn't good. Luckily for me there was only one other guest a female but that was awkward as we both wanted to shower at the same time. Lucky for both of us there were not 3 couples staying at the same time.

The Coastal walkway is a good walk. Old town worth a visit.
The Coastal walkway is a good walk. Old town worth a visit. Lots of good places to eat in town and some good shops and cafes. Lots of walks up the Kauaeranga river Valley in the Cormandel Forest Park.
Good base for surrounding areas, we did full circuit of Carmandel from here. Also enjoyed Gold mines tour at Waihi and walks on the Whatawheta river gorge
Chartre Manor was for us an ideal place to stay. We were warmly greeted by Anna-Marie and she went over and above to supply us with breakfast food, snacks, drinks, which we highly appreciated. The location on a hill overlooking the land and the water was great. There were sheep and rabbits in the field, which along with the many birds gave a relaxing atmosphere. The cottage is very quiet and spacious. Thames has several good restaurants. We would definitely stay here again when we visit New Zealand.
Beautiful location on the top of the hill overlooking Thames and the estuary. Had the whole top floor of the house, with 2 bedrooms, living area and kitchenette. Muesli, bread and spreads provided for breakfast, with cheese, cold meat and fruit. Fabulous sunsets. Great communication from hosts prior to the stay, lots of information about the area - leaflets etc - provided in the house. And a beautiful dog to greet us!
The cottage was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The personal touches definitely made it a home from home. The breakfast provisions were perfect as I hadn't remembered this would be provided from when I made the booking. I couldn't fault the cottage and Linda's communication was excellent. I would strongly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to stay in Thames and visit the Coromandel. Thank you!
We liked the little cabin because we have everything we need there, beds, kitchen, fridge and our own bathroom. Perfect for when you travel with little kids. We have a good time there, just bad weather and sick kids, not the best combination but we enjoyed as much as we could. It is a great playgorund in the property and another in Thames, just at 10 minutes drive, my little one loved both!
We just spent one night at the motel to escape cyclone Gabrielle so we didn’t get to enjoy the pool or other facilities. But we appreciated the super friendly welcome by the staff and the clean and comfortable room. The location is great to explore Thames and the area. The kitchenette has everything needed to prepare breakfast or small meals. Beds were comfortable and felt fairly new.
An absolutely gorgeously renovated historic hotel. The bedrooms were large and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable, and everything was immaculately clean, including the shared bathrooms. The cooked breakfast was delicious and a great start to the day. A credit to all the owners' hard work.
Nice central motel in Parawai/Thames. The facility has been modernised since my last stay and is a high quality motel. No-fuss check-in and close to all necessary amenities, restaurants etc. Highly recommended for other travellers business or pleasure
My husband and I have stayed in a few motels lately. This was the most expensive but very comfortable the bed we had was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. We also loved the fact we could cook her if we wanted to.
The elderly couple at the front desk were amazing. They really made our stay a lot of fun. Also the motel had a friendly cat who wanted to hang out so I rate this place really high.
We stayed in the Rata cottage. Absolutely amazing view out over the Firth of Thames.
Spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed. Friendly & knowledgeable hosts.
