Our only disappointment was that we'd only booked one night.
We felt like we were on the water. Very warm and comfortable. The onsite restaurant meal was superb. Thanks team. We'll be back.

Our host kindly made us sandwiches at no charge, as we had been delayed through a road closure and diverted by over 100 miles. It was much appreciated.

A lovely retreat in a superb location. Very close to the Pancake Rocks and you can walk the Truman Track from the house. The house itself is very cool, loved everything about it. Perfect for our family of four.

The Pancake Rocks walking track was fantastic and the Blow Holes were amazing. The Truman Track through native bush was awesome. Cafe reasonable and pub good but expensive food and drinks. Spectacular rock formations all around the area.Raincoats recommended - you never know when it will rain.

We loved our visit to Punakaika rocks and worth a detour.
We loved our visit to Punakaika rocks and worth a detour. We liked the house except we are too old for having to go up and down steep stairs during the night. We were not warned about this.
We ate at the local scenic hotel and this was reasonable and pleasant

The Pancake Rocks are overwhelming beautiful, almost an alien place on earth. We went there at the end of the day (low tide) and came back in the morning (high tide). The power of the waves was incredible.

What a delightful natural attraction - the pancake rocks are incredible. The garden tavern is very welcoming and the food was good. We stayed in the cute beachfront cabin and could walk to the beach, the pancake rocks, garden tavern and info centre from there. The Pancake Rocks Cafe needs a good shake up, the pancakes were terrible - undercooked and the banana was bad.

Great option for a short one night, or even longer stay.
Great option for a short one night, or even longer stay. The small compound of self contained units was very lovely. Even though all the cottages were occupied, it was peaceful and I could have sat out on the deck for much longer to enjoy the sound of the waves on the beach. We ate at the main hotel/restaurant in a lovely secluded garden. Even though it's right on the main road, the garden gives you a sense of peaceful tranquility. There's not much to do in the area, but for sure a 1 or 2 night stay is perfect here. We had room #10 & it was absolutely perfect

We visited the Rocks along the road - always an interesting visit, and spent a lot of time in Barrytown for a friends wedding.
Always take mozzie spray or insect repellant!
We took our own breakfast items and ate out the rest of the time - the pub at the other end of the village has a good range of food as does the cafe at the Rocks
Right on the beach. We stayed in sunset cottage, a separate unit next to the shared laundry ( v little noise from it) with it's own private bathroom, patio, garden, view of the ocean, dining table and kitchenette. You are welcome to use the fully fitted shared kitchen to cook and lounge as well. The atmosphere is so welcoming. Ten mins walk to the punakaiki rocks, five mins walk to the cavern, both well worth it. We had sunshine! Great one night stay, thank you!
A wonderful spot just back from the beach. We stayed in a self-contained unit which was lovely and comfortable. Our family stayed in the cottage which they also loved. The rooms are a good size and tidy, great cooking facilities for making breakfast etc and the hotel is a couple of minutes down the road for a drink and a couple of games of pool.
Great place to stay, we'll definitely come back
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Te Nikau Retreat, in the mamaku cottage. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with tips on the best things to see / preferable times to visit for Punakaiki. Our flat had everything we needed for our stay and was comfy as well as spacious. We would definitely recommend this place to stay!
We truly enjoyed the property, i.e., location fantastic, overall property was wonderful, loved the outdoor deck, and it was a great fit for our three adult group.
Check-in & check-out were very easy! We would definitly recommend this property for anyone visiting Punakaiki!
Check in at the main hotel/bar/restaurant was super quick and easy. The location of the property is perfect to break up the drive up/down the coast. The 1 bedroom cottage we had was perfect for us, and would be ideal even for much longer stays than our 1 night.
Excellent location if you want to visit Punakaiki or just enjoy a nice spot. All the areas were very cozy and warm. We initially had a double room with shared bathroom but got upgraded to a room with an en suite bathroom, which was a very nice surprise.
Great & affordable option in the Punakaiki area. Love the location with the rain forest covered hills and a ten minute walk to the pancake rocks. Nice beer garden & friendly staff. The pub meals have improved since the last time we visited.
A clean and comfortable, quirky cottage located a few minutes drive from the (limited) facilities in Punakaiki. Simply furnished and equipped but it had everything we needed for a couple of nights’ stay while we explored the area.
I had one night in the little S/C cabin & it was cute; right on beachfront with deck facing the sea; all necessary amenities, clean & comfortable. Friendly staff. Walking distance to local tavern & not that far from Pancake Rocks.
A lovely retreat in a superb location. Very close to the Pancake Rocks and you can walk the Truman Track from the house. The house itself is very cool, loved everything about it. Perfect for our family of four.
Fab location just outside punakaiki - lots to do in the local area - short walk to many of the local attractions. Weka can be viewed off the deck.
Very well equiped- had absolutely everything that you needed.
Bedrooms were comfy and able to be kept warm for sleeping. Had all the facilities needed. It was mostly secluded from other cottages there. It was better value for money than other places around Punakaiki
The hotel is very conveniently located to Pancake Rocks. The food in the restaurant/pub was reasonably priced and quite good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt very welcome.
