Very nice apartment, modern, spacious, and very clean. Located at the train station but the trains don't bother, as they do not run during the night. We did not use the kitchen much but it looked well equipped. Was super easy to get the keys, the proprietor was waiting for us at the station when we arrived. Nice restaurants 5 to 10 minutes away. A love little town, all highly recommended.

This hotel was the highlight of the trip. Set in a beautiful old house in a wonderful part of the village, it felt like being a winter fantasy. The rooms were excellently equipped with artsy furniture. Restaurants and bars were a short walk away and parking was available for free on street level. The surrounding houses are equally jaw dropping. Check in was effortless and very Gen Z friendly as it was done entirely without needing human interaction. I would not only recommend this hotel and Santa Maria to everyone but am hoping to return again very soon.

I have visited Santa Maria Maggiore a number of times. In the winter there is good cross-country skiing in the town, or downhill skiing nearby. In the height summer, you can take a cable car to escape the heat. In spring and autumn, there are lovely walks in both directions along the valley. And you can always return by the narrow-gauge railway. A trip on the railway down to Locarno or to Domodossola gives wonderful views.
