Chiavenna is a very attractive town in northern Italy, rich in historic heritage and framed by beautiful mountains with a variety of hiking opportunities, and of course good food. It is close to Lake Como and Switzerland with excellent public transport connections.

We stayed there only for two nights. We've been skiing in Madesimo and sleeping in Chiavenna. We didn't spend a lot of time there. We were just passing on our way to sankt moritz, and had to stay, because of a heavy rain. We found a last minute offer in Pianazzola, which is a small village above Chiavenna. A lovely little town which has a lot of mediterranean flair, though it's situated in alpine surroundings. Beautiful old town with nice piazzas and restaurants. Not very touristic, it has still a lot of northern italian authenticity.

Chiavenna is a picturesque town, which was apparently quite prosperous in medieval times, and many of the old buildings are well preserved. The mountain views are gorgeous. Chiavenna is a cute little town. There are couple of restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Its around 50min of beautiful twsting road from St.Moritz Swizzerland. Its an ideal place if you want to visit the Swiss side but with out spending a fortune.AlexandrosItaly

The hotel is located in the centrum, all important things are in 5-15minutes far by walk (shop, cafebar, restaurant, etc...). The staffs are nice and speaks english (nowadays this is a big problem in Italy to understand yourself on other language than italian, crazy...). Breakfast is good and various.

Completely refurbished old school of the small village of Pianazzola. The B&B is an 8-minute drive up the mountain from Chiavenna. The host Andre is very attentive and provides helpful tips. The Skiarea Valchiavenna is a 45-minute drive away. Nice drive through the alps and easy to get to.

Ghianna was an excellent host, picked us up from the train station and dropped us back too. He was so welcoming when I arrived. That’s what made the whole experience so nice: the human aspect. This is a perfect place to stay, if you need a good night rest.
