Layout of the town is terrible.
Layout of the town is terrible. Very difficult to find things and drive in for someone who is not familiar with it. Restaurants are adequate; a good variety. Mostly need to be there because of services (solicitor, accountant, etc.). My understanding is that the hospital is not very good.

We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar.
We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar. A car is not required to get around town. There are many lovely cafes for lunch and we had dinner at Pizza Bros which was very reasonably priced and food was delicious. There are many other lovely restaurants to choose from. The Irish Bar looked great for lunch but due to it's popularity we didn't get to try it. Another great pub - John McHales. Went there on Sunday night and they had live music playing - great atmosphere. We found an Escape Room Experience called INSiDE which is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of town - highly recommend it... we really enjoyed it. We also went bowling and then hired a car and went to Westport for a day. We ate at The Towers Bar & Restaurant. Food was amazing.. We drove along the coast to Bertra Beach with amazing scenery along the way. Could have done with a few more days - great weekend

Castlebar is a substantial town, with some good amenities and shopping. It's a good base for exploring Mayo and is reasonably close to Knock, Westport and Killala. Happy to recommend Bistrot 1798 restaurant - we had a lovely meal there. Great ambience and food, and very efficient, pleasant service. Good for a date night.

Castlebar is a vibrant town plenty of shops on the doorstep of the Ellison hotel beside the lovely Peace Garden Memorial and the National Museum of Ireland is just out in Tourlagh. Some of the crossing are hard to manage with a wheelchair.
2 Night stay - We were blown away by this property, this beautiful house is Luxurious, comfortable, and spacious. Our host Mary was welcoming and helpful throughout. This is a beautifully built and furnished Georgian style country house which sits in between Castlebar and Westport Quay and so there is plenty to do in the local area.
Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and delicious with lots of choices.
Superb value for money and I highly recommend if you are travelling to this area.
Fab hotel lovely and clean nicely decorated rooms bathrooms and views. Staff all amazing especially restaurants staff and wee macs bar staff. The head barman very kind and accommodating for customers looking for tables to eat. !! Great food in all areas. Beautiful grounds and walks . Enjoyed the planned walks and our visit to cemetery to look up deceased members of our family a great stay all round.. next visit to mayo will definitely book again. We all agreed we didn't want to leave.
The location was fantastic. A nice walk from Castlebar train station was very easily done in about twenty minutes (I was walking very slowly). The hosts were extremely friendly. The place is so homely and peaceful, a very gentle atmosphere overall hangs in the air. Would definitely return to the next time I’m in Castlebar and would definitely recommend to anyone. The value for money/comfort combination is just perfect.
The staff were just fabulous, from check-in to breakfast to dinner to cleaning staff. Everyone was so helpful and friendly.
The hotel is immaculate. The location is ideal.
Dinner and breakfast were fabulous. Will definitely be returning.
Loved the fact that you could regulate the temperature you want in the bedroom to your own liking,.not often you get to do that in hotels now.
Des and Oonagh were fantastic, knowledgeable hosts. We opted for scrambled eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast. We requested the eggs be well done, but not browned. Eggs were light and fluffy, breakfast was delicious! Des recommended going to Castlebar for dinner and music. We had a fun night in town and then were off to the Museum of Country Life which was a must see.
The food was great as was the breakfast and the staff were very nice and helpful, the Breaffy is set in such a nice place and so quite lots of walks, ponds, and little fairy walks for the kids and very close to Westport and other places around, a great place to stay for anyone who likes peace and quite an all round great hotel well worth the price.
Loved the hotel and the grounds. The room was exceptional and we had just a regular run of house room. We were in the area visiting family and did not use all that the hotel offers but the food/bar/breakfast were perfect and the spa looked to be first rate but we did not have time to indulge. The ambiance is wonderfully relaxing.
We enjoyed the visit to Castlebar. We were on a trip around the north coast of Ireland meeting friends in Castlebar who recommended the hotel. The hotel was well located and suited our needs. Very friendly owners who provided excellent facilities and services.
Location was good - close to Castlebar and Westport.
Beautiful house and garden. Felt safe and secure.
Bathroom had jacuzzi bath - main reason for booking - nice treat!
Breakfast very good and carefully prepared and served, given Covid restrictions.
I loved the convenient location near many attractions in Castlebar. The staff were friendly and were more than willing to let me leave my bags for bit before and after my stay (which was much appreciated for my solo travel on foot).
Very clean and comfortable house not too far from Castlebar town. Parking available. Nice, modern, simple interiors. Would stay again in this house. Everything was made available that you would need really.
Great value for money, parking was very convenient as direct access from multi story car park to hotel. Staff were exceptional, very friendly and accommodating. Dinner was really enjoyable also.
Wonderful hosts, very clean, quiet place, close to Castlebar. This is the third time we have rented a cottage. Very pleased with the attention and service! We wish Your prosperity! We recommend.
