Layia is in a part of the Mani that is less touristed and therefore more peaceful and traditional The scenery is unsurpassed and there are many nearby villages to explor, secluded beaches, and mountain hiking. The village has no shops or attractions, which for me makes it much better - it is more of a village with real people than a tourist spot. There is one taverna with friendly local people and delicious food. For some, Layia would be too isolated and far from "the action", but if you prefer history, tradition, and quiet beauty, Layia is paradise.
